I believe there's currently four 317s stored at Harwich - does anyone know which?

Believed to be on the site of the former Old North Road station at Longstowe, this being on the Cambridge to Oxford line which closed in 1968. The station building and signal box survive, while track has been (re)laid there and a Mark 1 is in residence. Viewable on Google Maps Street View, over bridge parapet where crossed by A1198.

There aren’t any non-PRM 317s left are there?Todays Railways UK 234 says that 26 non-PRM 317s have dispensation to run until end November 2021. Has that been extended or will they be withdrawn in a few days?
Wires crossed somewhere. The last non PRM class 317 out in service was 317345 back in March.Todays Railways UK 234 says that 26 non-PRM 317s have dispensation to run until end November 2021. Has that been extended or will they be withdrawn in a few days?
And to be clear, Today’s Railways is wrong: the dispensation for the 26 Class 321s expires at 2359 on 32 December. How they get this wrong, I don’t know, it’s publicly available on the DfT website!yes, my mistake, 321s not 317s
Did Dr Who write the applicationthe dispensation for the 26 Class 321s expires at 2359 on 32 December
Correct! Fat finger syndrome…Did Dr Who write the application
Assume, obviously, this means 31/12 but knowing this board it is best to check!
Do you think you can get a pic of this? I am part of the team that write the "Preserved Electric Multiple Units" guide for Railway Heritage Register.

Indeed - all the ex-317/2s which were converted by WAGNMany thanks for the updated list.
Were 649-672 the second batch of 24 317s built in 1985, four years after the original 48?
the 379s are potentially needed somewhere? There’s a rumour going around that potentially when the 379s go off lease in February the 317s will be staying for a bit longer to cover for them. Also there will be an influx on 720s coming to the WAML to cover for the 379s too
One theory is that the 379s go to Hornsey freeing up 387s to replace the 313s. I've no idea about the reliability or timescale of this plan.the 379s are potentially needed somewhere?
The 379s are meant to be staying until December if what’s shown in Modern Railways is anything to go by - unless plans have changed? There’s a rumour going around that potentially when the 379s go off lease in February the 317s will be staying for a bit longer to cover for them. Also there will be an influx on 720s coming to the WAML to cover for the 379s too
They were originally due to start at their new home from May, this was changed to December. It’s possible the plans have reverted back to May, but seems fairly unlikely given the situation at AGA.The 379s are meant to be staying until December if what’s shown in Modern Railways is anything to go by - unless plans have changed?
Their “new home” being with Great Northern I presume? They were originally due to start at their new home from May, this was changed to December. It’s possible the plans have reverted back to May, but seems fairly unlikely given the situation at AGA.
I doubt 720 introduction needs to be 'fully complete' before the last of the legacy units can be released. Two-thirds of the fleet of 133 units may well be enough for the current level of demand. And yes, with the 720 introduction not being fully complete, personally I can’t see them moving anytime soon.
Southern want to remove their 313s by late 2022 or early 2023. A 5-car 720 can replace an 8-car EMU, depending on passenger levels. They were originally due to start at their new home from May, this was changed to December. It’s possible the plans have reverted back to May, but seems fairly unlikely given the situation at AGA.
True, but the current level of demand won’t last forever - that being said, at this stage it’s not certain what’s going to happen with what’s going on at the moment.I doubt 720 introduction needs to be 'fully complete' before the last of the legacy units can be released. Two-thirds of the fleet of 133 units may well be enough for the current level of demand.
Indeed presumably the only thing holding back the 720's in WA is sufficient drivers with the traction knowledge.I doubt 720 introduction needs to be 'fully complete' before the last of the legacy units can be released. Two-thirds of the fleet of 133 units may well be enough for the current level of demand.

The poor availability of class 379s helps too. There are typically eight pairs of class 317s out on weekdays. So another eight class 720s on West Anglia will finish them off. Hopefully there will be some sort of farewell bash.Still a surprising amount in service then!
Then again what can you expect when 720 reliability is at the level it is...
