I'm not into weathering much, that's a bit run down 1970's. newer trains are cleaner!

Day 21 - some new Maersk Container wagons!

Got any presents in those containers?
Sealed for international travel / customs requirements. Anyway, I live a mile from the UKs biggest Christmas tree farm.

Day 22 is my Rails GT 18000 with sound, a great loco (once replaced) but like smooth track and no tight curves!

Next 2 days are new arrivals!

That’s beautiful. You’ve got a nice collection of one pioneer locomotives I must say.

Day 23 - Well here it is my latest arrival, a bargain from Rails - a Heljan Class 35. Couplings are a bit drooped so may have to get some stepped couplings, the reason for a bargain

One new surprise to go!

Absolutely loving that. Every time I go to Didcot, 18000 is a must-see because it's so different to everything else both there and anywhere in the preservation scene, now I think about it. I bet the sound is quite something!

That’s a classic. Always loved them in that livery, reminds of an old one I had (Triang maybe?)

Day 24 always the biggest surprise - a 5 car Class 800.003. At the end of November Hattons had an unexpected large delivery of class 800s and sold them at a discount to RRP, nearly halve the eBay price of the time.

No cracks found but it doesn't like uneven tracks!

Now that does look very nice. I think one of the re-releases I'd want most from Hornby next year is another batch of GWR 800s - and maybe even 802s? - at a decent price. If Hattons can sell them at a discounted rate, surely Hornby can too? ;)
Maybe some different numbers would be good. But I digress...

Very swish but I’m not having it that you’ve got any uneven track.

Annual Locomotive report.

2021 was a busy year for Locomotives & MUs, 2 up on the year.

New stock = 1 steam, 13 Diesel, 3 electric , 1 Gas Turbine and a Class 800. One is a new loco not yet revealed!
Sold stock = 1 steam, 10 Diesel, 2 Electric, 4 DMU including my last DC only locos.

One of my Lima Westerns has failed. It runs a short distance then dies, I'll have to take it apart & check it.
My class 423 is again running badly, I think they're all like that so it might end up going.
71000 & the MPV are also playing up, I think they need a clean.

My Lima 37 and 50 have been de-chipped to be sold on eBay along with hardwired DCC fitted D1071. All have gapping issues so I've decided to reduce my Lima fleet. Others may go & be replaced next year.

I have 3 steam on order although I might cancel 1 of them, 2 diesel & 1 electric loco.

My plan is to keep my fleet size at around 40-50 powered vehicles

As soon as my new loco arrives, you will see it on here :)

It's always interesting reading when you've got new stock coming in/old stuff going out. I should probably go through and see what I've bought this year but I daren't look at the cost of it all!
My 4-VEP also absolutely loves playing-up when you least want it to (i.e. all the time); at slow speeds it makes all sorts of noises (sounds like things grinding and not quite giving the model enough traction). People do seem to be able to fix them and make them work really well, though - only issue with that is the time, effort, and patience required

That sounds like a good idea fleet-wise. You'll definitely have enough space to store all of them from what you've showed us!

Looks very nice. Surprised it doesn't like uneven tracks as mine have never had problems on my layout and my track laying is not the best.

Across certain points, bogies lift off the tracks and the change of level is slight but enough over 2 coach lengths

A stunning model; perhaps it's the length and the bogies don't have enough 'play' in them to account for track regularities?

When I first got mine bogies didn't have much play on one coach as they were pushed up in the packaging so did cause some derailments. Over time with use it resolve it self.

2021 Coaching stock review

This has been a big year for coaches!

My new Bachmann Crimson & Cream rake was created, replacing a Mainline rake, the last of which has just sold; My new Bachmann Maroon / Hornby GW Maroon rake was created replacing a variety of old coaches; My Hornby B&G rake was completed; My Mainline B&G rake grew; My Mk2 rake grew in a mix of B&G + NSE coaches; My Mk2e rake changed from Airfix / Mainline to Hornby; And I gained 3 spare GWR Mk3s to supplement the Castle set to 7 when needed.

I do have another rake on order, maybe the last Mainline rake can then retire!

My best coach is the Gresley Buffet in WR B&G :)

I’m with you on the Gresley Buffet and I have tempted to buy a buffet myself recently. Might hit eBay later and see what’s about.
TMC have a sale on so that’s another option.

2021 Wagon review

2021 has seen the departure of many Lima wagons and some Hornby wagons. My only older stock is a rake of Lima tankers acquired last year and a couple of Guards vans.

My Container rake has grown a little and is made up of 16 Hattons, Hornby, Bachmann & Dapol wagons.

My stone train has become mix rake of 14 NR & EWS open stone wagons to do ballasting works replacing an assortment of Lima wagons.

I have also acquired a rake of 10 Freightliner HIA/MJA wagons.

I do have a few new wagons on order for 2022, but otherwise I don't plan any stock changes. I will of course add loads to more of my wagons

My latest arrival pending fitting detail parts, Heljan, not quite as good as the Dapol version but just £70 BNIB. Heljan are so easy to DCC fit :)

Liking that a lot. Proper Western Region loco that (even though it's not steam but we'll gloss over that ;)).
That set you've got is quite satisfying in a way, with the blue, maroon, and green. I'd be interested to see what the Heljan 52 looks like after you've fitted the detailing parts.

I'm a bit lazy on fitting parts

Had a running day yesterday, running all serviceable locos. Just the failed Western & 2 DC only locos not run.

I need a 4th Controller!

I bet that's quite the sight, even if you've not got all of your engines running around at the same time (would be a bit difficult I expect!), having them go around on that big trackplan you've got would be lovely.

I can reasonably run a pair on each circuit, so 8, one on each suburban line and shunt in sidings so 12 in total.

Only have 3 controllers and 1 me!
