Curzon Ashton 0 Boston 4. Cracking away win (surprising as well), keeping us in the playoff mix. Very tight!

Had a good 2-1 win at King Power today over Crystal Palace. My 7th PL game this season and only one we've lost I've not been to was Chelsea last Nov.

We seem to be doing a fantastic job of bottling the playoffs, after already doing a fantastic job of bottling automatic promotion. We have a favourable run-in but I don't fancy our chances.

We're definitely into "squeaky-bum time" for the Championship run-in... we host Luton tonight- the only team that's a bigger surprise this season than ourselves. A win would be massive for our chances of sealing a top six place, but it won't be easy- Luton are a decent side with a fair bit of pace: a factor that we often struggle to defend against.

We've also bottled any realistic chance of automatic promotion, although even with their recent wobbles Bournemouth and Fulham were always very much in the driving seat.

Yet another loss today confirms relegation for Grantham Town, from the NPL Premier Division.

Hyde United visit Grantham Town this coming Saturday and we still need more points to ensure that we are finally safe from relegation.

Hyde did win the reverse home fixture 3-0 earlier in the season in the pre-Gannon days.

Almost certainly Hyde, with 46 points and a decent enough goal difference, have done enough already to stay up. Even if they finish third bottom, they will still be o.k. as the three teams finishing third bottom with the best points per game record (of the four third bottom teams in the Northern Premier League/Isthmian League/Southern League Central/Southern League South) will all be reprieved. This season, only one team finishing third bottom, the one with the worst PPG record, goes down and Hyde already have enough points not to be this club.

Last weekend's home 0-4 defeat by a very good Bamber Bridge team did not improve the matter of goal difference.

If the Hyde players were maybe saving themselves for last night's Manchester Premier Cup final, that didn't work out too well either, Ashton United winning 1-0.

Not helped by Halifax unexpectedly recalling a player who was on loan at Hyde

Fort William FC won their first game of their league season yesterday meaning they have amassed more points this week (they played Monday) than they have in the rest of the season. Maybe a positive note near the end of their league season for team which always seems to struggle.

It's likely to be their final season in the Highland League as well. They'll have a play-off against Banks O'Dee, who haven't lost a game all season in the North Superleague. Banks O'Dee are also a full member of the SFA, so they can get promoted. The same Banks O'Dee also beat East Fife this season in the Scottish Cup, so it's going to be an incredible struggle for Fort William to survive the play-offs.

It's quite fascinating to see how Aberdeen is no longer a one-team town. Cove Rangers are all but guaranteed to get promoted into the Championship given that two of their last three games are against the relegated East Fife and relegation play-off bound Dumbarton while Banks O'Dee should at least finish mid-table in the Highland League.

IMO, the introduction of the pyramid system has been the best thing to happen in Scottish football in many years. So many teams were just coasting through doing nothing in Leagues 1 and 2 for many, many years, and there was a point when it was becoming a question if it was even worth continuing with Leagues 1 and 2.

The match against Strathspey Thistle was not all that surprising in its result as this was a match between the only two teams in the Highland League who had conceeded well over 100 goals this season.

This is exactly why I'm not sad to see Fort Bill go down. Although, it's interesting to look at why they struggle so much: part of the problem is the lack of football pitches in/around Fort William for youth sides. The area is much more about shinty than football.

Burnley have sacked Sean Dyche with still some matches to go before the end of the season.
I hope they've got someone lined up, there is no time to settle in. They have some winnable games coming up (Wolves at home, Watford away) but it will need someone who can get up to speed pretty quickly.

Wonder who they’ll parachute in. Sam Allardyce?

They seem to have been a league side for a long time (Ian Botham), I can't seem to find a date that they came into the the old football league 4
Elected to the League in 1950.
They seemed to be able to survive by developing young players and selling them on (at pretty knock-down fees) - Clemence and Keegan probably being the most notable. That seems to have dried up of late (although former Iron, Billy Sharp, is still scoring for Sheffield Utd).

Yes, a great shame. A side which has been in the Football League for 72 years and never in the top tier (I read 36 consecutive years in the old Fourth Division!) is a cultural fixture of the game.

It looks like Oldham have a chance of joining them in non league next season - founder Premier League members in 1992 as well!

It would leave (historic) Lincolnshire with just one league team, rather than the three they had a few years ago.

The only plus point I can see is that their replacements are likely to be 'traditional' league teams. That is teams who were included in the tables given away in comics that I acquired second hand because the previous owner had lost some (I am sure I had 'Gateshead'). OK some might have been restructured, but Chesterfield, Grimsby, Halifax, Notts County, Stockport and Wrexham are what I regard as traditional league teams and are in the automatic or play-off positions. Only Solihull Moors are an outlier.
