20901 & 20905 returning to action after, according to facebook, 2 and 5 years respectively on todays 1010 0A24 Barrow Hill LIP to Leeds Balm Road FD for tyre turning
Do these belong to Harry Needles?
ROG have a LU stock movement contract? Interesting...Yes they do, according to WNXX they are going on hire to ROG for LU stock movements, 901 was dropped off at Barrow Hill for mechanical attention
Saw this at Helpston, nice surprise to see a class 20 on the mainline!20905 straight into ROG action working this mornings 0918 5L46 Derby RTC to Ely Papworth Sidings top and tail with 37884 and four barrier vans
What London Underground stock needs moving around the country then? What will happen to said rolling stock? Certainly be an interesting sight to see on the network in non London areas.Yes they do, according to WNXX they are going on hire to ROG for LU stock movements, 901 was dropped off at Barrow Hill for mechanical attention

Likely there for shunting purposes - ROG do the shunting in Ely Papworth on behalf of Angel Trains, and with several HST vehicles leaving over the last few months, plus the continued departure of the 317s, some of the stock will need to be shuffled around. They'll also have to make space for the soon to be ex GWR Power Cars and sets returned to Angel soon as well.901 and 905 were photoed coupling up to a long line of 153s at Ely so presumably they didn't end up moving the stock?
Even vehicles in cold storage need their axles rotating.Likely there for shunting purposes - ROG do the shunting in Ely Papworth on behalf of Angel Trains, and with several HST vehicles leaving over the last few months, plus the continued departure of the 317s, some of the stock will need to be shuffled around. Oh yeah the new Tube trains. Makes sense now. Thank you for the information.I'm sure there must be plenty of reference to this in the LU thread, taking info from good old wikipedia it seems that 94 trains have been ordered from Siemens for the Piccadilly line with options for a total of 250 for replacement of all existing deep level trains on the Central (100), Waterloo & City (10) and Bakerloo (40), presumably removal of the old stock after their replacements have been delivered would also be a serious consideration
I am lead to believe that is just one of the many things they will be doing with ROG.I'd heard they were just going to be used for shunting at Ely, but I much prefer the idea of them hauling stock around the network
Sounds like this will be a longer term lease then? Maybe until the 93's are in service?I am lead to believe that is just one of the many things they will be doing with ROG.
That's the yellow warning panel against the surrounding faded GBRf orange. One thing I didn't notice at the time, but shows up in a photo is that the front of 20901 has two shades of yellow - the lower 'panel' is a brighter (or more reflective) shade:
That is how GBRf paint their locos - a yellow warning panel subtly different to the yellow or orange on other parts of the loco. You'll notice the locos are in basic GBRf livery but with the logos removed or painted out.One thing I didn't notice at the time, but shows up in a photo is that the front of 20901 has two shades of yellow - the lower 'panel' is a brighter (or more reflective) shade:

Same, perhaps a little more surprisingly, as Network Rail's fleet. It's always struck me (and perhaps GBRf) as a little odd that, with the new regs in place, they haven't been able to drop the Yellow panel in it's entirety - admittedly it would only apply to locos like the newer 66s, 69s, or 92s, but still. That is how GBRf paint their locos - a yellow warning panel subtly different to the yellow or orange on other parts of the loco. I was having a quick look through Flickr, and found one with two 66's in quite different shades of 'body' orange/yellow, so yes it's definitely changed over time - the front loco is yellow, the rear one orange (to my eyes):GBRf did actually go through a period where it adopted a lighter 'sandier' tint of orange, such as that applied to 66741. I believe this met the regs and so doubled up as the warning panel without needing a separate shade to be applied.
That looks to me to just be 66701 still in its original livery after having a few years to fade, against 702 recently painted. The orange was quite vibrant on the first batch of locos when new.I was having a quick look through Flickr, and found one with two 66's in quite different shades of 'body' orange/yellow, so yes it's definitely changed over time - the front loco is yellow, the rear one orange (to my eyes):
