Hearing of an incident at aviemore this evening, I understand it is still being dealt with. Thoughts to all involved
I believe it involves The Royal Scotsman and The Flying Scotsman - The Flying Scotsman engine had hit the stationary Royal Scotsman observation saloon.

Scotrail is putting out the line "Private railway next to the main line", so I'd wager this is an incident on the Strathspey preserved railway. Rumors on the twitterverse that Scotsman is involved but nothing clear.

Due to the emergency services responding to an incident on a private railway near the mainline, we're currently unable to run any trains through Aviemore station while they work.

That would explain why I couldn't see anything on RTT then. Sincerely hope there's nothing too serious, though the BBC are reporting two people have been taken to Raigmore Hospital.

BBC News - Two injured after Flying Scotsman crash at Highland station

Two people have been treated in hospital after a collision involving the Flying Scotsman locomotive and the Royal Scotsman carriages at a station in the Highlands.
Police Scotland said the incident happened at low speed at about 19:00 on Friday at Aviemore Station.
A man and woman sustained minor injuries and were taken to Raigmore Hospital in Inverness as a precaution.
Officers said their injuries were not believed to be serious.

Though said tweet also says they’re unable to run any trains through Aviemore which could be a bit confusing for passengers

A collision involving the Flying Scotsman train at Aviemore has resulted in multiple casualties.
The incident happened on Friday evening when a two trains collided resulting in multiple casualties.
It is understood that one the trains involved is the iconic Flying Scotsman
The historic locomotive was in Aviemore this week operating services along the Strathspey Heritage Railway to Boat of Garten and Broomhill.
A total of eight fire appliances were dispatched to the scene.
A spokesman for SFRS said: “We were alerted at 7.10pm on Friday to reports of a collision involving two trains at Aviemore Railway Station.

“We sent eight appliances to the scene, where firefighters worked to support partners.”
Police have confirmed that two people have been taken to hospital for treatment while three more were treated at the scene.
Eyewitnesses say there was a “flurry of activity” around the back of Aviemore Railway Station where the heritage railway line is located.

A police spokesman said: “Around 7pm on Friday, 29 September, 2023, we received a report of two trains colliding at Aviemore Railway Station.

From what I've read elsewhere, the other train is the Royal Scotsman, but I don't konw if thats right.

This looks like a pretty nasty incident and obviously we don’t have the full facts at the moment so please bear that in mind before posting.

Thanks

Looks like the main line is open. 1H25 (17:33 Edinburgh to Inverness) just passed through 53 minutes late.

Press & Journal has some more information now as well I think:

Press & Journal article

According to eyewitnesses, it appears that the Flying Scotsman was in the process of linking up with carriages of the luxury Royal Scotsman, when the collision took place.

The Royal Scotsman was operating a luxury train experience with some food and drink toppling over due to the collision.

Up the creek
The Scotsman and the Inverness Courier also suggest it was collision when Flying Scotsman was coupling to the Royal Scotsman, or at least one vehicle.

Without wanting to be insensitive to those who have been taking to hospital as their wellbeing is of course the key point of concern here, but I have a ticket for Flying Scotsman for tomorrow and have an early train to catch to make it to Aviemore. Would it be reasonable of me to assume that Flying Scotsman will not be running?

I’d imagine there will be a full RAIB investigation prior to it operating again. Be very surprised if it’s operating tomorrow.

That’s difficult for you. As @John Bishop said above, I’d be very surprised if it ran.

There’s clearly going to be an investigation into what’s happened as people have been injured and I’d have thought that the loco staying in situ would be what’s required at the moment while they get to the bottom of the causes.

By the images I've seen, probably not.

It's best to ask the railway itself or watch out for updates on their Facebook!
Due to the ongoing investigations, unfortunately we are not able to operate any trains on Saturday or Sunday. Thank you for your understanding.

Thank you both, that was my suspicion but I (optimistically!) was searching for the possibility of it running.

Completely understandable. It’s not insensitive by the way as you’ve probably been looking forward to this for weeks and you’re just looking for some solid information before setting off.
