    WCML Open Access Applications Rejected

Why is that just abstraction? The bid has had to pass a range of tests, including for abstraction - is it so unreasonable that an operator should be able to offer connections between existing stops too?

Britain’s HS1 rail link was ‘poor value for money’, report finds

The question I'd ask in an assessment of this kind is whether "changing geography" was part of the explicit intent for HS1 - criticising it for not delivering something that was never part of its scope is unreasonable. And as such geography change has generally not been part of railway policy...

Britain’s HS1 rail link was ‘poor value for money’, report finds

That ignores the minor point of geography, which is that Brighton is 20 miles nearer London than East Kent. I'd also suggest that the railway has, since LBSCR days, been following the market rather than acting to "modernise" "Kent's demographics". I moved to Lincolnshire over 20 years ago...

    New rail lines in Scotland

I just find it interesting that the NB didn't reach Fort William till 1890, and that the one attempt to put a railway up the Great Glen ended up one of the biggest white elephants in British railway history. The Highland/NB rivalry was all about access to Inverness, and was settled once the...

Cross Country Voyager overcrowding: What can be done about it?

Which may deal with TUPE, but doesn’t deal with the really difficult (=expensive) bits involving T&Cs (how long have Northern been trying to harmonise theirs?) or route/traction knowledge.

    Waterloo and City line sponsorship

It was, as it was from the leader of an opposition party (the LibDems) at City Hall criticising the current administration.

Any Permitted Tickets not valid on LNER from 2nd August???

Which is absolutely consistent with my observation - if you can straightforwardly get the information without running a complex model, why wouldn't you? But we are aligned on the core point - which is that this information will remain important, no matter what structure we end up with.

Any Permitted Tickets not valid on LNER from 2nd August???

I quite agree - but the point remains that even in a single GBR, apportioning income to flows is important. The tech has just moved on since ORCATS was built 30 or 40 years ago

Any Permitted Tickets not valid on LNER from 2nd August???

From fully open tickets, possibly - though there are enough flexible tickets out there that I've juggled between 1H07 and 1D32 more than once (and, yes, I recognise that's a niche choice).

Any Permitted Tickets not valid on LNER from 2nd August???

Pre-Covid, I was a season ticket holder - and it was an important part of the mix.

Any Permitted Tickets not valid on LNER from 2nd August???

My understanding is that shared revenue is a small proportion of ECML revenue. Splitting revenue by flow was introduced by BR, as a way of understanding how income related to costs, and would be needed in any case within a GBR - if you've ever worked in a large organisation, you'll be aware how...

Given the capacity of their units, is that just a commercial balance between seats and luggage?

Any Permitted Tickets not valid on LNER from 2nd August???

I have recently purchased through tickets on LNER with cross London to a further destination for 20% less than the London - destination fare. Available through all reputable retailers

Any Permitted Tickets not valid on LNER from 2nd August???

Different people put different weights on different features. I always try to sit at a table; my wife massively prefers airline seats. I like a window; my daughter couldn't give a stuff. Because end to end travellers aren't the only valued demand. There is supposed to be a 12 week booking...

DfT pulled back, not Virgin/Avanti. The distinction is important
