    On the Workbench...

A little fiddling around with a Hornby Mk1 BSK I'm "improving" (this one will be S34940 as best as I can do with the source model - but a rake of 3 cost about £35 on ebay - £27 after a bit of reselling items not needed...so not so bad really). I think I largely have the ends sorted in terms of...

    Bedford EMR Off Peak Confusion

Similar happens at Paddington as well - blanket generalisations like this are not always correct - it depends on the restriction code.

    Bedford EMR Off Peak Confusion

Restriction C4 has no evening restriction from St Pancras Mon-Fri, only a restriction in the morning peak. (EDIT: Beaten to it above!) Regardless, if you are sold a ticket with an itinerary from an accredited retailer, it is a valid ticket on the itinerary it is sold with.

    Bedford EMR Off Peak Confusion

I'm not sure I understand what the question is - is it "why do I get offered two singles (Advance and off-peak) on Tues, but a return on Fri?" (If so, isn't it because the former is cheaper by 10p on the Tues, but the advance fare at £5.05 is not available on Fri - only £5.90 so you get offered...

New Eltham to Oxford During Strike

And you also have Marylebone to Oxford to check as an alternative as well using the Chiltern service in case that doesn't work out.

What is this modern pop song? I'm sure I've heard it before can't even think who it is!

    Motherland by Kelli-Leigh. (It's the Women's 6 Nations Anthem)

    Lovely stuff!

    On the Workbench...

That looks super - is it a bashed R-T-R model or are you making it from kit/scratch? Some nice work! EDIT: Ah - I see the Latest Acquisition post!

    Southern Region newspaper trains 1950s/60s

Really useful information - thanks everyone. The SW region news trains were certainly a real mix up of all kinds of stock! Can I ask what the differences are in the CWN between eg PMV (4) and PMV (News)? I see there are also things like BY (News) - again, something specific about a BY converted...

    What's your latest acquisition?

B sounds like an option! (Presuming you're set more in the 70s at present?)

    Southern Region newspaper trains 1950s/60s

No - still helpful: there is a 3-set attached, so that's more than a single loose brake shoved on the back/front (and how very Southern keeping coaches in sets!) 1712870508 Super thanks - again, looks like a 3-set of some sort attached to a variety of vans.

    Southern Region newspaper trains 1950s/60s

Ah yes, thanks - the GUVs for the Southern Region were around 1959 if I remember right.

    Southern Region newspaper trains 1950s/60s

Thanks all - I may drop on and grab a copy of one of the timetables of the time and see what I can dig out. I would be interested in the formations certainly around that time - of course, running at night, there aren't many photos around to refer to, and certainly not of that period (more later...

    On the Workbench...

Have been plugging away at two of the vans I sprayed up - a PMV and a Python A. Solebars/wheels sorted. PMV underframe finished - Python needs brakes and rodding applying (I've since done the brakes, steps, etc). Then some more paint touchup, interior painting, windows, then weathering/decals....

    What's your latest acquisition?

I'm definitely a beginner, and learning as I go! Some things I have learnt so far: it's really important to add the right amount of weight, and to get the model built square with all four wheels (for non bogie stock) level and on the rails. The Parkside kits that I've been working on are...
