    Hopefully both are successful

Hounslow loop services should be improved

Maybe something like that or a season ticket that you pick the number of journeys a week you pay for and any additional ones are charged at a discount, I buy a yearly season ticket for 2 return journeys a week then if one week I go to office 3 times the extra one is discounted.

Trivia : Which TOCs have consistent train direction?

I have to admit I was surprised as I don't think I've seen one the wrong way round, as with 90s and 86s before that normally would be loco and first class at the London end but logically it will happen more frequently with the 745s as there is no difference which way round they are and you're...

How does Waterloo only get 60 million passengers yet each SWR train I get is packed like sardines?

It does seem that TOCs contracts with ROSCOs are very restrictive and don't realise the benefits of conventional leases but yes I realise there costs and I'd probably be surprised how substantial they are.

The larger fleet cost I accept and I guess it's the nature of leasing stock rather than buying.

How does Waterloo only get 60 million passengers yet each SWR train I get is packed like sardines?

I always wonder about this, running 5 cars or 10 cars, what's the difference in cost, I'd be surprised if it's significantly different. I know it would be silly running a 12 car unit to Skegness in the middle of winter but running a 10 car instead of 5 isn't going to be double the cost...

Further Class 180 Failure Issue on ECML

The 180s have earned a reputation for a propensity to catch fire due to historically that being the case, don't know if it's true now though. Electric Cars have a propensity to catch fire if you ask some people but any more than petrol, you don't really see that comparison and no one thinks...

How does Waterloo only get 60 million passengers yet each SWR train I get is packed like sardines?

Should be a rule if you don't use them for 2 timetable periods then you lose them and have to re apply

How does Waterloo only get 60 million passengers yet each SWR train I get is packed like sardines?

That seems to be an issue across the country, it would be an interesting research study to work out what percentage of capacity before passengers get put off. Currently on the Greater Anglia routes, peaks are comfortably full but not many more passengers before it gets uncomfortable and...

BBC News - Train drivers overwhelmingly middle-aged white men

Why must every profession now be diverse, overall interest in becoming a train driver is overwhelmingly a white boys ambition therefore likely most train drivers will be white male. Culture has a large impact on what work people do.

BBC News - Train drivers overwhelmingly middle-aged white men

I hate the term positive discrimination because that depends on the candidate, for me positive discrimination would be the candidate has to white male because I happen to fit that demographic. I still don't really understand how it seems so difficult to give jobs to the best candidate, I can...

    EMR Regional and Connect refurbishments

The decision on the 158s may come in 2 to 3 years when more clarity persists on electrification plans and passenger numbers, I suspect there might even not be a direct replacement as the Norwich Liverpool service could still be split as was planned before the pandemic. Given all the...

Anyone noticed anecdotally another uptick in passenger numbers

That's the thing though, the perception rightly or wrongly is that the trains are unreliable. Change that narrative and you'd be surprised how many passengers would use them but in the current setup it would not be something the DFT would want.

Labour promises rail nationalisation within five years of coming to power

I still think it will make little difference, all labour are proposing is taking over the TOCs, still little incentive to improve services and even less incentive to reduce overcrowding. Infrastructure will be the same as now, it's just political ideology that's driving this. There's been...

Labour promises rail nationalisation within five years of coming to power

Not strictly true, BR could have been set targets but if they fail to achieve them what's the stick? Fine them, oh the government fining itself.. terminate the contract Ahh privatise.. all the time there's targets in the NHS and it fails to meet them but they just carry on.
