Broadband change of ISP - your thought?

I am on Plusnet (have been for a year or so now), and their customer service is top notch. I had a problem with the internet dropping out on a regular basis. They sent several engineers, and monitored our connection in between. In the end, they changed the socket, wiring in the house, and the...

Can a train be formed of 3 DMUs?

I once travelled on a 10-car 165 between BIcester North and Banbury. It was before the section to Aynho had been redoubled, and the train I boarded at Bicester had been there well over an hour due to delays. Trains from Marylebone were tacked on the end, and by the time we got moving the train...

    footbridge for wheelchairs

Please remove your thinking cap from your pocket and put it on your head. I may not drive, due to seizures. I sure hope I never become physically disabled too, because in your world I'd be stuck at home going nowhere. I also regularly see wheelchair users on the train between Trowbridge...

most profound dearth of facilities for an important station

No passenger canopies either, bar a couple of bus shelters. Strange how the bike parking is 'rain-proof', but the seats on the platforms aren't.

    Mk 3 INFO

I always look for the roof profile at the ends of the coaches. Mk 2's are rounded but Mk 1's are very square. Apologies if anyone already posted that.

    Bristol Temple Meads sharp curves

Platform 5 and 6 seem to mostly be Pacer and Voyager territory. I've boarded there a fair few times and have never noticed any clearance issues. Nor have there been any huge gaps to jump when boarding, unlike the down platform at Bath Spa! (Sorry, I always get the platform numbers mixed up at Bath).

    Class 60's Scrapline at Toton

I read somewhere (a magazine if I recall correctly) that 60s are more fuel efficient than 66s. Apparently the new emissions regulations haven't been good for the fuel consumption figures.

    A bit of help please

GPS liable to error? I would imagine that this sign would be for roads that sat-nav commonly sends drivers along when it shouldn't! If so, I would imagine the style on the left to be more appropriate.

    Class 31 on Eastenders

My thought on things was that at least they used a class that still runs on the network, in a livery suited to the train it was hauling. Railway scenes on telly are usually diabolical and I thought this one was a bit better to be honest.

    Bombardier EDMU

Is this a possible use for the 6xx series of numbers? Also the 73s (and 74s) were numbered as DC electric locos, despite the presence of a diesel engine, which would suggest that the 22Xs could just as well be numbered as EMUs as DEMUs?

    Class 172's

Improved fuel efficiency and reduced weight are the reasons I have heard.

    D1015 Western Champion

Very sad news, glad I got to see 1015 on the mainline before this happened. Hopefully she'll be running again in due course. --- old post above --- --- new post below --- Near enough - it refers to a connecting rod letting go of the crankshaft, and exiting the engine. A major failure indeed.

    Bicester Link/Bicester Town branch

I guess, given the state of the line, FGW will be quite happy for Chiltern to take it over. I don't imagine it turns a profit at the moment. As far as I can tell Chiltern will be using the old parcels station at Oxford and running new track along the LMS trackbed, with the whole lot being...
