Bus crashes in to a river in the Eastleigh area (26/06)

A quick and dirty measurement on Google maps puts the traffic lights as almost 700m down the road. If the jammed accelerator report has any merit, then it's a miracle (or rather, most likely driver skill) that a worse accident didn't occur

    Go South Coast

To answer your questions: There's no bus directly to the quay from Bournemouth, however the open top route 70 goes quite close (5-10 minutes walk from the Old Orchard stop) and makes for a great day out For tickets, it's best to download the morebus app. A Zone A ticket will cover Bournemouth...

    Trivia: cancelled post-privatisation routes

When taking over the franchise, SWR proposed a Weymouth/Bournemouth-Southampton-Portsmouth route that never made it to the timetable, mainly thanks to local opposition

    Go South Coast

Might end up keeping 1824 (the other red route branded bus) going, given that it's been on light duties for a few months after a couple of breakdowns. The NFT vehicles don't get much of a break out of season...

    Go South Coast

You might be thinking of 1821 which became unexpectedly open top in December 2023. That returned to service in the summer and is still going strong.

    Cottingley station footbridge

You may well be right, but now I'm wondering: if the existence of Cottingley station was preventing TRU-related changes from happening, why wouldn't this have been put forward as another reason for closing the station? The idea of keeping both stations open was briefly considered but discounted...

    Cottingley station footbridge

According to the closure consultation, neither. The closure's reasoning is that it wouldn't be possible to stop and both Cottingley and White Rose because they're so close together, and that keeping Cottingley only wasn't possible because it wasn't accessible and they wouldn't have the funding...

Direct bus journeys that only run on evenings/Sundays

Not that there's a lot of call for it, but in Southampton, the U1N night bus additionally calls at Chamberlain Halls (usually served by the U2), meaning a direct journey between Chamberlain and Wessex Lane halls is possible. And in Poole, the 25 and 26 get combined in the evenings, making...

Most unusual/unexpected unit allocation you’ve been on?

A few years back I was on a SWR 158 doing the stopper from Brockenhurst to Bournemouth after the line flooded at Sway and the spicy rail was switched off. It was pulled off the Lymington branch and ran wrong line the whole way.

    Dual–Named Stations?

SWR insist that it's 'Pokesdown for Boscombe' but for everyone else it's just plain Pokesdown. It'll always just be Pokesdown to me.

    Dual–Named Stations?

Mottisfont and Dunbridge is a fairly recent re-doubling, as I'm pretty sure it was just 'Dunbridge' back when I used the Romsey rounders back in the 00s

trivia songs that mention trains/ railways

Chiming in with WM by Tom Aspaul, which features the lyrics: So we're gonna take a ride on the Midland Metro Line One, 'cause there's only one line The remix version (with none other than Kim Wilde...) also has the line "Wolverhampton to Birmingham" in the middle 8, and the previous track...
