XC woes: what should the policy regarding first class on overcrowded services be?

I never these days buy Advance tickets for long distance travel because I find the worry of missing the train too stressful. Having to rely on an hourly bus to reach the station, and it not being unknown for the bus on occasions not to turn up, it‘s just not worth it. I already have to allow up...

end of the 'Jolly Fisherman' EMR to Skegness; what alternative options could EMR put in place?

Perhaps not affluent in comparison to many other parts of the country but there are some nicer places along the route away from Skegness and Boston. Sleaford, Heckington, Wainfleet, Ancaster etc all have nice surrounding areas. However, would anyone living in the better areas really want to use...

Trips by Bus and Coach: Your reports

@RELL6L I had a few days in Manchester last September and endured the number 11 between Altrincham and Stockport. I’d been walking around the National Trust Gardens and Parkland at Dunham Massey just to the west of Altrincham and arrived at the Interchange, saw a bus just about to depart for...

What current train services would look different if certain railways hadn’t been closed?

If the line south of Nottingham through Old Darby to Melton Mowbray had remained open would some Sheffield and Nottingham to London trains have continued to run that way? Also would the Liverpool to Norwich trains have been routed that way to avoid them taking up paths on the ECML between...

Trivia: Highest location that each TOC/FOC serves or passes

I think some of the land between Whittlesea and March could be very slightly lower but as the railway runs along an embankment it might not be the lowest.

Class 810 for East Midlands Railway Construction/Introduction Updates

Completely agree. I think it would be very unsatisfactory and unfair if EMR had to hand over any 222’s before the 810’s are in use. The East Midlands had to wait long enough before they got some of the 170’s because of delays in delivering new trains especially to the West Midlands, resulting in...

    Nottinghamshire ENCTS bus pass problem.

My Nottinghamshire ENCTS pass has worked right through this problem on Stagecoach buses and I hear that is the case throughout the country. Most Nottinghamshire passes are still not working on Trent Barton, Nottingham City Transport and the Nottingham Trams. I understand that with the exception...

    Nottinghamshire ENCTS bus pass problem.

They were still not working this morning on the Nottingham trams and I don’t think they are working on Trent Barton and Nottingham City Transport buses. Mine worked with no problems on Stagecoach East Midlands and Stagecoach Yorkshire on Saturday.

    Walking and Rambling discussion

This photo was taken on 23rd May 2023 when I was walking along the coast north of Liverpool towards Hightown. I remember taking the photo as I was quite surprised to see it less than 3 weeks after the coronation.

    Nottinghamshire ENCTS bus pass problem.

I think it's just passes issued by Nottinghamshire but no problem as bus drivers and tram staff are aware of it. I'm more concerned as a Nottinghamshire pass holder that mine may not work outside of the county and drivers won't be aware.

    Nottinghamshire ENCTS bus pass problem.

There has been an issue with Nottinghamshire ENCTS passes not working since Wednesday of this week and I see that this may now not be fixed until next week. My bus pass currently will not work on Nottinghamshire City Transport and Trent Barton buses and it also doesn’t work on the Nottingham...

Trips by Bus and Coach: Your reports

That’s where I got off the bus to do my walk from Hampsthwaite to Ripley.

How are you all coping with the £3 cap?

I agree, but I think that there is something to complain about in areas where there is no multi-operator ticket. Even a journey of no more than miles, involving 2 buses can end up costing £12 for a return journey. Even the £8 cost when the £2 cap was in force was more than enough.

    Accommodation suggestions and reviews

If you find the Travelodge and Premier Inn in Aberdeen very expensive on the dates you require, the Ibis is well worth considering if their prices are lower. It was clean with a comfortable bed, friendly staff and good breakfast. It was the most reasonably priced hotel near the station when I...

Should Cross Country XC services be curtailed at York?

That was until XC decided to cut the number of trains which actually call at Chesterfield. Many journeys north from Nottingham now require a less easy change at Sheffield. There’s no need for XC to omit calls at Chesterfield as they now end up waiting time in Derby in both directions. In...
