TRIVIA: Most circuitous shortest route by rail

Until the direct train ceased to be, you could catch a train from St Budeaux Victoria Road to St Budeaux Ferry Road. A distance of 6 MILES by train, or 6 METRES by foot!

How close does a replacement bus stop need to be to a station?

In the case of Looe Valley line, the replacement bus stop for Causeland is over a mile away in Duloe up one very steep hill! I should know as I've walked it! At least its convenient (and quicker) for those who live in Duloe. Same goes for St Keyne Wishing Well Halt where the bus...

    Least disrupted route or station

According to ORR's most recent statistics for Period 11 (most of January), the stations with the most reliable service were Buckenham, Lelant Saltings and Stourbridge Town, with no services cancelled and all running within 3 minutes of schedule.

    Tatty stations

Pilning. I visited the other week and the station approach was littered with fly tipped rubbish. The platform in use has a worn out bus shelter and fencing. And that's before you look over to the now disused platform which is crawling with weeds after 8 years of closure. The whole place needs...

    Stupid questions from passengers

Some that I've heard from staff... At Newquay: Which platform does the London train depart from? (There's only one) At Liskeard: Does the Penzance train go to Plymouth? At Bodmin Parkway: Pax: When does the coach for the 1518 to London turn up? I've been waiting at the bus stop for ages but...

There's also a passing loop at St Blazey which passes trains every so often as well.

    Cornwall Metro funding approved

The plan is to build an extra platform at Newquay, and an extra passing loop at Tregoss Moor (where the local services will pass each other). This gives you the infrastructure to run a consistent hourly local service, plus the summer long-distance trains as well as clay trains to/from...

    Okehampton - 3 Years On

The footbridge is owned by Devon County Council. Although I have no idea if there are plans to repair it.

    Exeter 1J74/1A73 re-time

I think it is mostly to do with ensuring customers from Tiverton Parkway can connect in with 1A73 (The Golden Hind) up to London. If 1J74 is running behind 1A73 or is cancelled, an extra stop is often added into 1A73. It used to be the job of a XC service which ran from Paignton to Manchester...

Picnic Tables lineside / at stations

Nowhere near you of course, but I'd go for Stogumber on the West Somerset Railway. They'll even serve you a cream tea while you're there!

It's because the odd one or two won't stop at Par as you say.

The 3tph between Truro and St Austell point is a headline stat as it mentions two big populations. It goes without saying that Par will also have the same frequency (give or take a couple throughout the day). In terms of the new loop on the Newquay branch, this will be used by the metro trains...

    Trivia: Spooky stations
