Trivia: places where another line runs through without a station

I don't think you can count these - Carterhatch isn't really a settlement like some of the other London examples. The distance between Southbury and Turkey Street is about the same as Southbury and Edmonton, so not like there's a big gap. ... All this of course ignoring the fact there WAS a...

Help with platform numbers/train formations for London Overground (Weaver Line)

It's one around this time - potentially 0804 at Edmonton, off Cheshunt, which is why you may not have seen it! I've only made the error a couple of times which is why I can't nail it down with certainty! (in any case I mostly have to drive to work these days!)

Help with platform numbers/train formations for London Overground (Weaver Line)

A good summation. There's also one 4 car in the morning peak which is usually wedged to the rafters by the time it gets to Edmonton. Obviously operational need is there, but I agree it feels carriage provision is based on outdated expectations (probably partly as a result of growth because of...

    360 running speed

Thanks! And yes, when work has gone to absolute pot a stroll around the hangars is an excellent remedy.

    Recent freight on Enfield/Cheshunt Line

Thanks. I'm not sure how I've never seen it before - I think I may have been thrown as they're marked STP, but thus presumably for some other reason. And thanks to all others for freightliner situation. Very interesting.

    Recent freight on Enfield/Cheshunt Line

I live close to Bury St Junction and in the last few weeks I have noted (both audio and visual!) a range of freight services in the afternoon, all of which appear on Real Time Trains as STP. Today, aside from a number of movements marked "civil engineer" this morning (also rare!) there was a...

    360 running speed

Interesting this - my office has a vista view of the railway as it skirts round the back of the RAF Museum and I've always been of the view the 222s are flying at this point, whereas the 700s (obv not the stoppers!) are more leisurely. But perhaps that's just perception - maybe because they're...

    Examples of unique level crossings?

Whatever it is mustn't be all that effective as there is a no cycling and "cyclists dismount" sign on the crossing - standard procedure for crossings like this when I was riding regularly was to time it so I could join the primary position in the main line of traffic, use the safety of cars...

    Examples of unique level crossings?

Brilliant post - thanks so much for this.

    Examples of unique level crossings?

On G Maps the paved crossing is still in place on the line of the railway, and you can trace the taxiway from that. No sign of a level crossing in full though.

TfL denies FOI request about train performance statistics over concerns of terrorism

For TfL the man hour limit will be £450, with a notional £25ph applied - so 18 hours (the limit for central and legislative bodies is 24 hours, for what it's worth). I doubt it takes that long to dig the answer out of the engineering manuals. I am occasionally asked to respond to FOIs (not in...

Parking for Severn Valley Diesel Gala

Stourbridge Jn has a vast car park and is minutes away - and arguably better placed for the motorway.

Commuter seat choices - interesting observation

Same, but I need somewhere to put my bag of cans. Or 20 quid M&S meal deal with an obnoxious sandwich filling. The only right answer to number 1 seat on a 700 is the single seat in first by the cab door. We all know it.

    Trivia: Largest delay recovery

Would it have been because of the delay that they could do that? Perhaps the Trent Valley was closed until after the train was booked, but because it was late it could turn left at Stafford instead?

[trivia] Stations named after a private organisation

Ford might as well be called Gaugemaster, so... :D
