    Automatic Gearboxes

I think that your Vitara has a 6-speed DCT, according to Suzuki literature, possibly depends on age? Contact Suzuki UK or a UK dealer for confirmation?? As for creeping at idle or slow speeds a modern DCT is designed to "feel" similar to a torque converter transmission. I'm no expert but we...

The Scala is an oddball in that it's bigger than a Golf but cheaper.... The UK is not likely to buy many of them, it's really intended for Skoda's old Eastern European markets as a more affordable (than an Octavia) roomy family hatchback. If Skoda were allowed to build a vRS version (with...

You may not know that the next-generation Fabia will arrive later this year. It will use the MQB AO platform which is also the be found in the current VW Polo & other VAG brands. If you feel that you need more space, Skoda makes the Scala 5-door hatchback, first sold here in 2019 & with decent...

    Your first car

I've been lucky with Chrysler cross-pond rentals, 2 X LHS sedans, a 300M & a Cirrus, + a Jeep Cherokee, & a Dodge Intrepid ES. All modern (at that time, '95-2002) OHC V6's & 4-speed automatic transaxles. Our 1st trip out there was Xmas '80-'81 New Year, we rented Mercury (a Ford brand) cars, a...

AFAIK only about 10% car buyers pay cash (well not actual notes but debit cards or bank transfers......). Bank loan interest rates are often only 3-3.5%, PCP rates are probably more though. 1619387871 A now departed friend owned an American motor home powered by a big-block Chevy V8, it burned...

Porterbrook Cl.769 'Flex' trains from 319s, initially for Northern

The speed limit from Thames Haven Jct. to the end of the Network Rail boundary is 25 mph, & 15 mph in the port area. (Data taken from Network Rail AR Sectional Appendix, REf. EA 1420 001 AR2.) Google is your friend.......

The Leon v a Mk 7 Golf thing is, for me that the Golf has more elbow room & giving more space for the front seat occupants. The New Leon is bigger, (it has the longer wheelbase version of the current VAG MQB (Golf 8, A3, etc. platform), but like all the new similar VAG models (except the new A3)...

That would be the Mountune upgrade? SEAT / Cupra have done something similar with the last Leon ST (Sports Tourer / estate car...) R - with a "factory-fitted" ABT tune, circa 50 PS more. There's one for sale at a tempting price, but I'm probably too "large"to be comfortable, whereas a Mk. 7...

Interesting, what Focus variant makes 375 bhp, tweaked ST or RS?

    Class 321 Withdrawal updates

When I was using Anglia Day Rovers, 2-3 years ago, I always returned home, (Chelmsford, via a change at Colchester) & there were other passengers, not just the track-bashing gricers. Seriously noisy with all the windows open but 100 mph was reachedat least once in the journey. As for comfort...

SWR Class 458 to be retained by SWR.

Since they are reverting to 4-car units, the higher power to weight ratio + 100 mph gearing should produce a useful EMU.

Porterbrook Cl.769 'Flex' trains from 319s, initially for Northern

Thanks (& also 175001 too), can a 769 on diesel keep to the timings? AFAIK, the Welsh units in the valleys are slower than the normal DMU's.

Thanks for the info, where does the change-over from diesel to electric happen? (I'm not familar with the area.....) TIA, DC.

    Class 321 Withdrawal updates

Well, the Southminster branch will need at least 2 sets, until the down bay at Wickford has been rebuilt to accomodate the new units.

Aiming to travel on Class 321 units

The Southminster branch seems to be running to the Saturday schedules but with 1/2 the service suspended outside the peaks. The G.A. timetable pages aren't too accurate though, I'm quoting from the platform indicator at SOF last evening. As for chasing individual units, I really don't get it...
