    Midland lines around Buxton

Have a watch of this video from Don Coffey - - it covers the route used from Hindlow up to Manchester and beyond.

Derby Telegraph "Plans to convert Monsal Trail back into railway takes 'significant step forward'"

I think it's a local service to allow long distance travellers to access the peaks, an express service to get people from Manchester to Derby and a London to Bakewell service, with a bunch of open access operators picking up the slack.

Derby Telegraph "Plans to convert Monsal Trail back into railway takes 'significant step forward'"

And how many more would be attracted to the Bakewell area versus how many would stop visiting if the Monsal Trail and Peak Rail were closed down? The Peak District covers 555 square miles - reinstating this line will only really open up around 15 square miles of that to rail users. You're not...

Derby Telegraph "Plans to convert Monsal Trail back into railway takes 'significant step forward'"

Are the millions of passengers wanting to travel from Derby to Manchester going to be happy with an all shacks service trundling through the peaks? Those paths take an 1h50 to do Derby-Matlock and Buxton-Piccadilly - so we're not including the closed bit. It only takes just over 1h30 to go via...

Derby Telegraph "Plans to convert Monsal Trail back into railway takes 'significant step forward'"

The problem is there don't seem to be many benefits of redirecting this service, other than to run along a route few people want to travel.

So the increased capacity gets eaten up straight away - with more paths needed through the more congested northern end of Sheffield station to boot. It makes no sense to replace the call at Sheffield (~600k pop) with a call at Bakewell (~3k pop).

Don Coffey cab ride video discussion

It's a building that has had a second floor added and is being re-roofed - shown here - https://maps.app.goo.gl/jK7YATf9d6nTswgX9 - on street view before the works.

Keir Starmer and the Labour Party

There would be less need for legitimate zero-hours contracts if the Government hadn't cracked down on freelance work - pushing companies with irregular work towards employing people rather than contracting them for individual jobs.

Sheffield Supertram & Tram Train news

Because he won't "win anyway" if he doesn't have reasons for people to vote for him. It'll be a big enough challenge to find the cash to carry out the required maintenance, infrastructure and fleet renewals, let alone start expanding the network to completely new locations. Especially those...

Class 810 for East Midlands Railway Construction/Introduction Updates

The UK rail network had standardised on 12x20m and 10x23m formations for the purposes of platform design, with new builds (such as St Pancras) being done to those standards. It was Hitachi deciding to offer 9x26m for the IEP project rather than stick with the established standards that has...

Class 810 for East Midlands Railway Construction/Introduction Updates

The 810's are required to match the 222's performance on diesel to maintain the existing timetable. The standard 80x's can't do this - hence needing a re-design to add additional engines to the formation. Maybe if Hitachi hadn't tried to be clever and had stuck to the standard 23m car length...

    EMR Regional and Connect refurbishments

The 158's are getting old and won't carry on forever. There should be a plan in place now for their replacement, especially on the long distance / high speed routes like Liverpool - Norwich, even if the actual construction start date is a few years in the future. But strategic planning seems to...

What could happen for not giving Revenue Officer my details

Why would the named person not receive the letter if we're talking about a person being stopped and giving someone else's name and address which can be validated against other data sources?

Sheffield Supertram & Tram Train news

Based on the use of the buses I've seen, most people travelling from the Stocksbridge end are wanting to go to the stops around Hillsborough. I would suggest that the number of people who are willing to go to the city centre via Nunnery Square and then change train to get to the city centre is...
