    Bowes Railway

Careful - the Bowes Railway is not in Bowes! It's in between Washington and Gateshead

    Bowes Railway

I'd be interesting in canvassing the opinions of anyone who's visited the Bowes Railway recently, with a view to deciding whether I go to see it or not. I have a preliminary view but I won't share it yet to avoid biasing the thread.

    Steam engines powered by battery

Suspect most or all of the participants in this thread already know this, but for the benefit of lurkers electric powered steam locomotives have actually been tried and worked in Switzerland back in the war: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electric-steam_locomotive Image shows one in use

Has a heritage railway ever prosecuted under bylaws?

Is this cause of yet another fun law? Great how regulations cause all sorts of strange behaviour isn't it?

it’s a fairly safe bet that standard class passengers and taxpayers will indeed be paying for 1st class refreshments.

Too fat to fit comfortably. This is fine if I'm e.g. with my wife but not for me (or the person next to me!) if I'm on my own. First class can arrange to be on the 1 side of 1x2. First class is also far more civilised if I want to work, but the former is the fundamental reason.

Fine but I won't be travelling long distance in standard class seats and I have alternatives...

Has a heritage railway ever prosecuted under bylaws?

I hope it has a three stage appeal process where the first two stages are processed by illiterate morons

Has a heritage railway ever prosecuted under bylaws?

No idea what the rules are but to peek inside your can (before slamming it shut ;)) one would hope that the definition of service can't be too "strict". I used Weardale Railway as a service on Saturday. Admittedly we went out of our way to use it, but it genuinely got 3 of us to Bishop Auckland...

Has a heritage railway ever prosecuted under bylaws?

As far as anyone knows, has a heritage railway ever launched a prosecution under any bylaws?

    Find the Tube Game

I would change the background colour of the station name as it implies it's on the picadilly line Also, your source map is publicly accessible. This would usually be server misconfiguration but may be deliberate.

    Gearbox lights on a 142 -

I was on a 142 at a heritage railway today and gawping through the window in the door* to watch the driver. On a relatively sharp curve (15mph limit apparently for the curve only) the train (not local) gearbox light kept flickering on. I made a mental note to ask the driver about this. Then...

Fallout for rail prosecutions from Post Office scandal

I had a ten second look at your profile to see if I could see a link to orientalist posts; afraid you'll have to link to them As it happens I don't consider conformism a good thing at all. What I'm trying to do is apply a mental model to your mental model, if that makes sense? It seems to me...
