The Glasgow one stays in Scotland overnight. The Edinburgh works back to Manchester, so presumably they wanted it back to the depot there for some reason.

You're having a laugh with Liverpool, aren't you? It gets direct service to London, Manchester, Birmingham, Sheffield, Nottingham, Norwich, Leeds, York, Newcastle and Prestonat least every hour, with Glasgow served a few times a day.

Although this restriction only apply to the zone 6 boundary (Hatch End) - you can take any train within zones 1-6 after that (except Heathrow Express and Southeastern services from St Pancras)
