I saw the 10.45 Leeds to Man. airport today. 3 Car set. Full and standing when it departed. Lots of passengers with cases panicking they wouldn't get on.
One improvement they could make would be to provide some rubbish bins. What do they expect passengers to do with the used coffee cups etc other than throw onto the tracks?
Memories fade with time but my recollection of reading the Crossrail business case was that it was justified almost wholly on time saved. Financially it was a basket case (and that was based on the original cost estimates) but a notional value was placed on time saved by passengers and this...

Bottom line is you always end up paying for a site investigation in one form or other. Best practice should be to do this before you put the business case together and seek authority.
Indeed-by accident. But meanwhile someone was procuring the 175/180 which have been less satisfactory

I am sure your points are valid but relate to operational matters. I was also thinking about standardising the bits under the floorboards and obtaining financial benefits of a long...
Reading these forums and railway magazines it is clear that several TOCs are going through the procurement process.
This could presumably end up with a plethora of different designs from different manufacturers. Continuing the mess privatisation has left.
I would suggest this is undesirable and...
