GWR Class 230 Information, Movements & Discussion.

Similarly to fuel on diesel trains, there isn’t any kind of level of detail shown to the driver about state of charge. From memory (I had my familiarisation day back in Feb ‘24); there’s just two indicators in the driving cab One that “proves” the train is accepting power in fast charge mode...

No, the rules apply at all times.

GWR Class 230 Information, Movements & Discussion.

Greenford branch uses 9 drivers each weekday due to limits on numbers of trips they can do in a shift. Given some of those 50 mentioned previously are instructors, leading drivers, managers and so forth; Most “actual” drivers will do a couple of stints on Greenfords each week.

GWR class 800 and 802 services that are DOO operated.

In essence:- There’s a DOO geographical area - essentially Paddington to Bedwyn and Banbury, plus Thames branches. IET-operated services may run DOO(P) if their whole, originally timetabled journey starts AND ends within that geographical area. Such trains must be dispatched by station staff...

    Class 175 to GWR

Issue with the signalling coming on/off Laira depot; leaving the 175 and a couple of IETs trapped on depot. Also caused a few cancellations in the fairly early morning in Cornwall and several short forms

    GWR Class 165/166 Turbo Diagrams

165108 and 166210 moving East temporarily to help with availability struggles. 165104 went to EX for its exam vice RTCD for workload balancing reasons

    Go South Coast

I believe they’re tangentially related / associated; if not please move the post… Are Swindon getting new(er) buses soon? About a year or so ago we had some ex- London double decker buses which were very welcome on cross town busy routes like mine (the 5); then they all vanished and it was...

Strange reason for a train cancellation.

Realtime Trains has made its own “human” translations of the internal delay attribution codes; and then pushes them out as the cancellation reason. It is largely okay in the majority of circumstances; but in the case of code ‘MS’ I’m not sure they’ve got it quite right. We certainly see threads...

Railway employee receives penalty fare for travelling to work

From my own immediate-family experience RST (rail staff travel) are very hot on any form of staff/dependent/etc travel irregularities. Their default position is to permanently remove travel benefits from the offender and referral for disciplinary action for the employee. We have seen cases on...

    Double yellow flashing aspects?

Been a long time since I looked in any detail, but High Wycombe bay used to be MAY-FA

    Double yellow flashing aspects?

A lot (most) have vanished in the past few years and replaced with MAY-FA But in the not too distant past, Haywards Heath for the “loop” platforms; Stoats Nest Jn going southbound from the Down Fast to Down Redhill. I believe also Staines (towards Virginia Water) before recent resignalling.

Heathrow Express move to Platforms 12 and 14 at Paddington

Curvature and stepping distances on platforms 12 and 14 to a 387 are awful. Just about tolerable for a standard 387; not at all appropriate with heavy luggage etc. It ain’t broke…

    GWML ATP

No confirmed/committed plans to replace at present. Expansion of ETCS L2 overlay as fitted between Ealing Broadway and West Drayton incl Heathrow would be the logical step. The main issue with doing that is the hardware implementation for GW-ATP on the IETs makes it essentially impossible for...
