    EMR refusing Scottish money

I think so, but I have not visited a Scottish bank's own ATM for some time. If they are any nearby when I next require cash, I will try them out.

“New research shows passengers wasting money by booking late”

Simple - if you're a PR person! You add up: Kings Cross to York York to Leeds York to Edinburgh Edinburgh to Inverness Edinburgh to Aberdeen etc. And you reach your "almost 1,000 miles". It sounds better than just measuring from Kings Cross to Inverness because that gives a smaller number...

    EMR refusing Scottish money

Your understanding is incorrect. I withdrew cash from a Sainsbury's Bank ATM in Aberdeen last week and was issued with a mixture of Bank of Scotland and Clydesdale Bank £20 notes. This is entirely normal in Scotland.

“New research shows passengers wasting money by booking late”

But if you click through to the LNER page linked in the article, that is not what it says: So why not just be clear in the PR mailshot that's been sent to Rail Business Daily (and no doubt countless others)?

    EMR refusing Scottish money

Please clarify. Do you think I am expecting too much for the rail industry to configure and maintain its TVMs correctly? Or something else?

    EMR refusing Scottish money

OK. How about "all UK banknotes up to and including £20"? There are also £100 notes in Scotland, albeit rarely seen outside of banks, casinos, cash-in-hand tradesmen etc.

So confused :( using Senior Rail card for early departures Chesterfield to London / Chesterfield to Manchester

Absolutely. But this is sadly indicative of the London-centric view held by so many organizations. It should be renamed to something with a connection to its geographic applicability.

    EMR refusing Scottish money

TVMs and other payment terminals (such as supermarket self-checkouts) have sophisticated banknote readers which can detect whether banknotes are genuine or not. Such readers should - if they are properly maintained - be regularly updated with the "signatures" of all valid banknotes. It takes...

“New research shows passengers wasting money by booking late”

This implies that Advance fares can be bought on LNER's website or app for up to 45% less than the same Advance fares can be bought from other outlets. PR spin is one thing, but misleading nonsense such as this is quite another. The website link provided has an asterisk which explains that the...

    EMR refusing Scottish money

I remember once proffering a Clydesdale Bank £5 note at an Upper Crust outlet at Derby station and the person said "sorry, we don't accept Euros". It was accepted after I suggested they take a closer look at the note. 1714065670 That is simply incorrect.

Expired rail card, have been warned about going to court - advice

That doesn't sound right, because all ticket prices are a multiple of 5 pence.

Yes, I was aware of this site, but as you say, nothing is happening on the ground, so it's unlikely to begin production in 2024, or even 2025. On 27 Feb 2024, the announcement of UK Government funding for the project was said to be [my emphasis]: Given the lack of any more recent news on the...
