Request for help: LNER Fare Trial Ripoff

The idea that long distance trains should be seated reservation only is ludicrous when applied to a railway system that doesn't run enough capacity to allow for that to be a reasonable solution. For sections of the journey, whether it runs with me stood in the vestibule or not makes no...

    East Mids Area Rail Capacity

Hi, Having travelled by train more widely recently, I'm starting to realise just how short and 'low capacity' trains feel on the Midland mainline and the network around Nottingham/Derby. Jumped on an (I think) 11 coach service from Euston to Manchester the other day, and even within the...

Delay Repay where I didn't buy the ticket?

Hi, I travelled on an EMR advance recently to STP - i was significantly delayed so would like to put in a delay repay claim. I just wondered, it was my friend who bought the ticket but can I still claim the delay repay for the ticket I travelled on to be paid to me? It will save me a load of...

    1st October Travel Advice

Brill, thanks for letting me know. I think EMR ran 1 tph last time, so will see if it looks similar this time. Are either union linked to TFL in any way? Just thinking about the tube. Thanks again!

    1st October Travel Advice

Hi, I plan to travel on 1st October to something I can't really change. Journey is Derby to London, return following day. I'm confused by the rumours. ASLEF are out but articles don't list EMR. RMT is rumoured but not in the news. Tickets can still be purchased for the day including advances...

Revised EMR Regional Timetables - From 19th June

Just looked and I can't really see a difference between the timetables for the routes I use - absolute load of rubbish. I just want to be able to get from NOT to LGE after a night out with more options than 21:30 (ish) or 23:45 (ish). There are even 2 services running between NOT and DBY...

Merseyrail Penalty Fare - No facility to purchase

They absolutely do. It is no coincidence that the cross country policy (page 9 and 10) is almost exactly the same as the CPS wording - https://www.crosscountrytrains.co.uk/media/1496/xctl-115-prosecutions-policy-issue-3-nov-2016.pdf If they don't have the evidence and/or the prosecution is...

Merseyrail Penalty Fare - No facility to purchase

Before any criminal prosecution, the railway must consider exactly the same things as the CPS/police - this includes the public interest test and the evidential test. They do not have to go to an outside body, but they do need to show that they have carefully considered whether the prosecution...

    EMR still useless

More emphasis on leisure travel is part of the future of the railway, this includes better evening and weekend services. It also includes rethinking engineering work timing imo! At present, I feel like the railway is kicking back against this rather than accepting it.

    Paper tickets

I don't like non-paper tickets as I feel they track me more, and I don't like the idea of yet another organisation tracking my every move. Having read several disputes about digital tickets and the use of 'older' data to identify trends that 'look fraudulent' to TOCs, I'm afraid I don't really...

    Delay repay. Do you bother?

I claim every penny I'm entitled to and I don't consider the reason for the delay. If I travelled with the wrong ticket (paid a few pounds less) then I'm sure the TOCs wouldn't care about my reason and also, the comms on the railway gives generic 'reasons' for delays. I just view it as black...

Revised EMR Regional Timetables - From 19th June

East Midlands Railway services cut due to 'Covid pressures' - BBC News At this point, this is just ridiculous. What have they got against running trains from Nottingham to anywhere but London?

    EMR still useless

I think an hourly service out of Nottingham to reasonably dense outlying settlements isn't too much to ask for. People have moved away from commuting to work everyday and towards leisure travel - the railway can adapt....or not. But if it doesn't adapt....what next?

    EMR still useless

The train companies are looking at this all wrong if what has been said in this thread is true. If they ran more later services (or at least kept the frequency steady) then more people would travel full stop. I wouldn't get the train from LGE to NOT and then the bus back - I'd just save a chunk...
