    GWR fare increases

It's certainly not gone unnoticed here... The oldest ODT from Didcot I could quickly lay my hands on is from Dec 2015 - £19.40 with Network Railcard. Today it's £29.80, that's 54% inflation. Cumulative CPI over the same period is 38% according to the Bank of England. So the price hike is 42%...

You are indeed correct; my error. ODT Definition

    GWR fare increases

One Day Travelcard Now reaching a ~30% increase in less than 3 years for an off peak ODT from Didcot. Meanwhile, the service is at least as unreliable as ever if not worse. Daylight robbery comes to mind. As for the cretins on Reddit etc, their stupidity is hard to comprehend, although I'm...

TrainSplit/fastjp Forcing Unnecessary Change When Requesting "Stop or Change"

It did in the past, but now it doesn't. E.g. Bristol Parkway to Paddington, Flexible, Cheapest, Network Railcard (I think you'll have to press the "Cheap" and "Flexible Buttons" to get the £73.92 splits at Swindon and Reading) It should, and mostly used to, come up with this sort of thing...

TrainSplit/fastjp Forcing Unnecessary Change When Requesting "Stop or Change"

As per the title, some while ago this behaviour started manifesting for certain journeys. Having tried again now, I wonder if some "accidental functionality" has crept in? Specifically: A Network Railcard holder travelling from e.g. Bristol Parkway to e.g. Paddington often wants to be on trains...

Reading - Paddington route set for overhaul - BBC report

Indeed they don't. However, the nuances of: "Due to a points failure" "Due to multiple points failures" "Due to points failures in at least 3 different locations" are very different and will be read as such by most literate laypersons. Why not say 3 or 4 or 37, it is not an unknowable known...

Reading - Paddington route set for overhaul - BBC report

The evidence-based answer to that is: "see above"! Yes it's more complicated than that, but the evidence suggests that whatever is being accomplished so far, fresh problems are occurring at an equal or greater rate and so the net result is nil. Unless the programme is somehow cumulative and...

Reading - Paddington route set for overhaul - BBC report

Just now from GWR: "Apologies to customers, Network Rail advise we have multiple points failures between Reading and Slough in at least 3 different locations. In addition the high speed line from Reading towards London is currently shut." A neat summary of what a shambles the whole thing has...

Advance ticket - leaving at earlier station

In the specific example cited by @londonteacher*, isn't the most cost effective safe option to buy a ticket from Rainham to Chatham for about £5? In what way can it then be claimed that the "correct" fare for the journey hasn't been paid? It clearly has, even if you don't actually waste your...

Elizabeth line cancellations due to ‘shortage of crew’

Appreciate that back and forth with data is going to get tedious quickly, but given that a lot of the disruption I've experienced has been in the core getting from central London to Paddington I looked for Tottenham Ct Rd, and it's essentially the same. Yes, obvious incidents, but aside from...

Elizabeth line cancellations due to ‘shortage of crew’

Fair enough, you can observe, literally by visual inspection, periods where something specific presumably went really wrong. However, expand out to the last 3 months, all other things being equal, and it's literally visible: Same thing, but 90 Days... Prior to 27/1 occasional disaster plus...

Elizabeth line cancellations due to ‘shortage of crew’

My apologies. Fixed (hopefully) If not, just look quickly at Ealing Broadway to Paddington since about 27th Jan between 20:00 and 00:00 Mon-Fri. I see ~100 out of ~600 total services cancelled over that entire period. That is, ~17% of  all such services cancelled over the last 20 weekdays.

Elizabeth line cancellations due to ‘shortage of crew’

How is this: Recenttraintimes: Very Many Cancellations on the Elizabeth Line in the Evenings for Weeks explained by school holidays? It's actually not as bad this week. It's been going on pretty consistently for a month. My anecdata is being caught up in it over and over again, but that is...

Elizabeth line cancellations due to ‘shortage of crew’

It's been terrible in the evenings for weeks. Just to really give the paying punters the obligatory one fingered salute, TfL or MTR or whoever it is make like everything is absolutely fine via, presumably, the disgraceful practice of p-coding. TfL Elizabeth Line online status widget: not a...

Instances of being wrongly told your valid ticket wasn't valid

I've lost count of the number of times I've been told that a non-stop split onto a paper day travelcard at the zone 6 boundary isn't permitted, mostly on GWR. This is most often by ticket office staff, who question the combination of tickets I'm buying. To be fair, this is usually an attempt to...
