Transpennine Route Upgrade and Electrification updates

I used the train from Mirfield to Huddersfield this week and have to say the scale of the works along the route are vast. New bridges, a new cutting been dug out new stations, electrification and re-tracking. The new mirfield station actually looks huge up close. The workers were busy cladding...

Grand Central order Hitachi Tri-Modes - confirmed

There is also the question of whether they will use electricity between ravensthorpe (which I'm sure they will serve when rebuilt) and mirfield as the TRU should be nearing completion by then and be a fully electrified line. Or is a few miles of track not worth the hassle of changing power supply?

Transpennine Route Upgrade and Electrification updates

Just got a TRU pamphlet through the door as a "railway neighbour". It's says for Mirfield the schedule is: Apr25 Old P1 closes and the new entrance from station road to the temp P1 opens. Dec25 New platforms 1 and 2 opened with a new accessible footbridge to the car park. Summer 27 Platform...

Transpennine Route Upgrade and Electrification updates

I echo the comment above regarding timescales. It would be good to know what the plans are! Along the same lines, will the route be split whilst the works are ongoing, so Dewsbury becomes a terminus from Leeds and the new Batley cross over used with all Manc to Leeds services going through...

Transpennine Route Upgrade and Electrification updates

What are the plans for Dewsbury and Batley, both in terms of station changes and track layout? I'm sure I saw something about a 3rd line at Batley (towards Dewsbury) to allow overtaking?

Transpennine Route Upgrade and Electrification updates

I found this image online for Mirfield. It looks like there will be a staircase and lift from station road to platform level, albeit from the other side of the road. https://railuk.com/railway-stations/upgrade-works-to-start-at-mirfield-station/amp/

Transpennine Route Upgrade and Electrification updates

The lineside vegetation has been completely removed between the tracks and Dewsbury tip. There is also a Transpennine upgrade compound set up next door. As the tip is right next to the tracks and is open to the public, this should give a good vantage point to see any work that commences for the...

ORR unveils station usage data between April 2022 and March 2023

I've attached a list of stations that have their main destination as Leeds. Adding these to the King's Cross number provides just over 70% of the destinations. The gap will be made up of Man Picc, York, Sheffield, Doncaster, etc. where Leeds is not the main destination but does generate...

What on earth is a Wright 'Floline'?

Yes these wrighbuses were well built. Not sure if Leeds had "flolines" but the wrightbuses in the region put in a good service and always seemed well built and powerful. They never seemed to age either in terms of looks. Off topic, but prior to low floor buses, Yorkshire Traction had some K...

Transpennine Route Upgrade and Electrification updates

Thanks for all the replies to my question regarding canopies. Personally I wish any new station could be built "properly" with canopy and solid structure waiting room. The stations are likely to last 100 years or more so an additional £1m or whatever it costs over the life of the structure is...

Transpennine Route Upgrade and Electrification updates

A general question... why aren't new stations built with more cover from the elements? How much more would it cost to build a canopy that covered an area near the footbridge? The bus stop shelters get full very quickly, are used for anti social behaviour and are generally not fit for purpose...

    Menston Station - access issues

I used the train from Ilkley to Menston recently with my daughter in a buggy. I knew there would be a footbridge to cross the line to get out of the station so was prepared for that. However, I wasn't prepared for the 1ft+ drop from train to platform. I've never experienced such a large drop...

    Type History: The MCW/Optare MetroRider

I remember using the Yorkshire Traction "TownLink" branded metroriders on the 262 from Huddersfield to Dewsbury. They seemed to be used on the Wakefield Road corridor quite extensively. Im sure Yorkshire Travel had a few knackered smaller metroriders then used in competition with Yorkshire...

Ticket reservations on seats slow to download.

I was on a GWR service to Great Malvern the other weekend. A 5 car IET, initially with no reservations showing, then some, then more. A family were sat at a table opposite me, all 4 seats were showing available, even after the previous updates. An angry little man came along waving his phone...

Transpennine Route Upgrade and Electrification updates

I'm not in the railway industry, but just from looking at the location of the image and also comments on LinkedIn it does look more like the start of construction through supporting the embankment at White Rose station rather than electrification works?
