Rochdale station - passengers locked out

Arrived at Rochdale this morning at 0630 to catch the 0637 to Manchester Vic. Unable to access the station with the main entrance closed with the roller shutters down. No staff, no explanation and 0637 arrived and departed Without anyone able to board. A dozen or more passengers waiting...

Recent post from vlogger GLovesTrains, starting her journey at Wigan NW, earlier this month showing the fully installed (but open at 9am) barriers.

    Special Offers Discussion

When collecting these tokens from the newspapers (Daily Star appears to be the cheapest) do they have to be from different days (ie are the tokens dated) or can you buy two on the same day and that will do the job? Thanks in advance.

    Metrolink fares

The machine would only sell Peak Tickets before 9.30, no option whatsoever to buy Off Peak tickets, despite it being Off Peak all day on “public holidays” according to Metrolink’s T&Cs

    Metrolink fares

Posted in the Light Rail sub-forum. Should Metrolink not be charging Off Peak fares all day today?

    Manchester Metrolink (Non speculative discussion)

If Good Friday is excluded from Metrolink’s definition of “public holidays” then I think their ticketing conditions should explicitly state this. Most people, by common consent would believe that today was a “public holiday”. 1744970172 I wanted to buy 2 x Zones 1-4 Travelcard @ £4.90 each. A...

    Northern Complimentary Travel Pass query

Mrs Par and myself were recently delayed travelling together on ticket booked directly with Northern and I elected to receive complimentary travel passes as the method of fulfilling my delay repay claim. Northern approved the claim, no problem and I have today received the passes, which we...

Trivia : Any station (on mainland GB) and requiring two changes to reach London.

Pre Metrolinkification of the Oldham Loop, two changes were always necessary for London. An argument could be made for those trains that ran through to Southport, that a single change in Wigan was possible, but that considers Wallgate and NW as a single change, which despite their close...

Avanti - changing an Advance price query

Yes, I’ve read that and it isn’t 100% clear to me, perhaps others can comment? It could be interpreted as refunds on being available for the first 3 days of industrial action that have now passed. 1737403773 Update Based on dvboy’s advice I put in a refund request using the form (couldn’t do...

Avanti - changing an Advance price query

But surely in that scenario “the price of the actual ticket“ would be even higher (£27.60 or thereabouts) so even less of a reason to request more money when they are currently retailing at £24.30. I think what I‘m going to do is leave it a few days to see how the RMT / Avanti talks progress...

Avanti - changing an Advance price query

Not that I recall, but I can’t rule it out entirely. If I did (and I honestly can’t remember doing so), it surely wouldn’t explain why Avanti are now asking for more, when I’ve already handed over in excess of the cost that the tickets are currently retailing at.

Avanti - changing an Advance price query

Irrespective of where the £24.80 (£49.60) came from, surely I shouldn’t be expected to pay an additional £5.60 when the the new tickets are retailing at £48.60. Any clue as to how why this is being requested and how I might avoid the £5.60?

Avanti - changing an Advance price query

No, no additional discounts. Below is the “ticket info” page from the e-ticket in my Apple wallet. What I do know is that Avanti are asking for an additional £5.60 on top of the £49.60 I’ve already paid for tickets currently retailing at £48.60, which appears to be a bit of an anomaly.

Avanti - changing an Advance price query

Yes, see below. These are 2 x Advance singles, London to Manchester, booked with a Two Together Railcard. These were booked in December. 2 x £24.80 = £49.60. The train I’m looking at would allow a new booking for 2 x Advance singles (with the aforementioned Railcard) for £48.60 as per my...
