How does Waterloo only get 60 million passengers yet each SWR train I get is packed like sardines?

Not so many people commuting as working at home (full or part time) has become the norm for many. Train lengths cut. Although out of scope for this trains in the 70s/80s were mainly 12 or 8 coaches peak time and packed.

    Conwy Valley Line

I think integrated bus and rail connections are rare in any part of the UK. It would make a lot of sense to start working towards integrating bus and rail throughout the UK in areas where transport is limited, so mainly rural areas with infrequent services. However with the many bus and rail...

"Failed to provide a valid ticket when approached"

Other than taking a video of the ticket office window how else can the OP prove this? In essence it is the OP's word against Merseyrail, how would a court decide who was correct? I suppose if you had a GPS tracker and it showed you stationary in the area of the window this might be of use, but...

How could heritage railways encourage more visitors to arrive by public transport?

The East Somerset have arranged a bus service from Frome to Cranmore (and also from Shepton Mallet) for their gala next week 176/17. Timetable on their web site.

ECML Signalling Systems Failure in the Newark area (06/03/2024)

Years ago we had cable theft in the St Helens area. Railway police mounted a night watch but the cable was pulled out by a road vehicle from effectively the other end right under their noses.

Anything open 9/10 or 16/17 March?

There is now a limited bus service from Frome to the ESR. Their FB has details of the planned trains and haulage.

    Why are things so expensive?

Everything has gone up because of energy costs for one thing. However I doubt any contract will have a clause requiring a reduction in costs if energy costs come down. Personally I think some material supplies companies have taken advantage to raise prices more than their cost increases as it is...

EMR Guard Refusing To Accept Post Strike Day Ticket

Not only should there be a full refund but there should also be additional compensation for the time and stress caused by the action of the guard.

Fined by Merseyrail as I had “come too far” without a ticket. Should I fight it?

I would pay and then appeal or complain (I am not sure if you can appeal after payment of the penalty) on the basis that the sign said pay at destination a clear instruction from Merseyrail , that you were unfamiliar with where the destination pay point was and that due to the crowds it was...

Trains skipping stations when they are less than 5 minutes late

If a train is running late and is then told to omit stops to catch up time can it be left to the driver to decide if he has regained time to stop at all scheduled stops once he has regained time or is within say two to three minutes of time? This would benefit passengers waiting for the train...

    Bristol rail improvements

Is there anything proposed to stop the ridiculous stopping of trains so far down the west end of some platforms that it is a long long walk to reach them even if only a three car? This to my mind is not passenger friendly and a problem for anyone with any mobility issues or heavy baggage. Not to...

    TOC behaviour and the law

It would be interesting to see if the apps are fit for purpose. Do they just before payment is requested show in plain terms and not small print what you have bought and the type of railcard used etc? Not saying this is a get out but perhaps more pressure would need to be brought on companies...

    Ticket Barrier Blues

Memory is cheap these days so presumably lack of foresight when designed and installed.
