I was not buying.
IOM railways are irrelevant to this discussion, they are not regulated by by the orr and so you might as well comment that railways in India run with open doors so that should be ok here.

I did ask why trains are washed on the way out of depot and not on the way in, I was told that this was so the wet trains picked up dust from inside the tunnels, I have no idea if this is the actual reason though.
There are no track layout issues with washing trains on the way in.
sounds as if the driver was doing his job and you did not like shat you were hearing, he followed company policy and you argued, if you keep arguing what does he do.?
If you check your speed using a gps tracker then you may find that you are doing considerably less than your intended speed, possibly 10% less, I know my car reads 7% below corredt.
Assuming they are working there are 2 washes at Morden, one on each side of the depot, Trains are normally washed when entering service at Morden so pretty frequently.
