Multiple trains one after the other cancelled due to 'staff shortages'

And where do you find a replacement driver that doesn't need 12 months or however long to be trained, is fully route trained (or who is able to drop everything and potentially move across the country) to replace the sacked driver instantly to prevent a shortage later that day or the next day or...

    Conwy Valley Line

On a different topic, the only crossing loop on the line is at North Llanrwst station. How do trains operate through the station? Do they use both platforms or (as the line is essentially 'one train in steam' unless there is a charter or something) do trains use the same platform/track in either...

Railcard discount before 10am: can I dispute this?

There is no mention of the railcard in your message to Trainline, so while they are correct in saying the ticket is valid (an undiscounted one would be), had you mentioned the railcard, they would (presumably) have mentioned the minimum fare. The validity of the ticket itselfis not affected...

Electrified Rail Lines which have either closed or are now diesel operated

If it hasn't already been mentioned, while the Lancaster Castle to Morecambe line is closed, the section from Morecambe to Heysham is still open but de-electrified.

    Bentham line train stock

Looking at the poster, I see Northern are still reluctant to employ proof readers. If the engineering works are also affecting the Skipton to Carlisle line, then having replacement bus stops for stations up to Long Preston & Giggleswick described as 'Towards Skipton' and 'Towards 'Carlisle'...

    Optare Metrodecker Emergency(?) Braking

We have the collision avoidance on our Mellor Stratas, but whether any buses built specifically as a bus, rather than a van with a bus body on it, have it I couldn't say.

    6D37 Rylstone - Hunslet 04-12-2023

Just shows the 60+ year old 37's still have their uses!

    6D37 Rylstone - Hunslet 04-12-2023

Putting my pedant cap on, Rylstone technically isn't between Skipton and Carlisle, it's on the former Grassington branch from Skipton running in a completely different direction.

    The best railway moments

For me, it has to be the moment when having travelled over from West Yorkshire on the Leeds to Morecambe train, you depart Carnforth and get the first view of the sea near Hest Bank.

Nuneham Viaduct shut - Didcot- Oxford

    Makes sense. Thanks!

Nuneham Viaduct shut - Didcot- Oxford

So, and apologies if this is a daft question, if it is normal line speed bar that one set of points, why is the shuttle service being given 19 minutes from Didcot to Culham compared to the normal 7ish?

Which type of train still in service today will you miss most when they've all been withdrawn from use on the national network?

The Sprinter types (150/153/155 and 156). As someone who grew up with the 2nd generation DMU's, these have the nicest engine noise. The later Express Sprinters (158's&9's) also make a splendid noise.

What does this button do, seen at P1 Ilkley?

IIRC, Ilkley has 2 of these on each platform, which i think is so that, on occasions where there is 2 units on the same platform, the conductor doesn't have to walk all the way to the buffer stop end to press it (and maybe so the signaller knows which unit is ready?).

Trivia: Local bus services that use bypasses

There was in Yorkshire Rider days an X37 that used the bypass, came off to serve Elland town centre and then came back on to continue it's journey. There was also an X36 which may have stayed on the bypass and missed Elland. Back to today, Keighley Bus Company 862 runs via the Aire Valley Road...

Nuneham Viaduct shut - Didcot- Oxford

Out of interest, when working wrong line, is a train able to run at line speed (whatever that is here) or is there a lower limit a train has to observe?
