How to deal with MMI question

Spoke to head of recruitment with my toc, it does count.
Hi, in a similar situation and wondering the same. Your TOC recruitment is saying you lose a life if you fail at the interview stage?

I currently have 2 lives and an interview coming up. I've never sat psychometric tests but I will if I progress. If I don't pass the interview then I've lost a life?
Cheers

Any MMI done by toc or opc counts as a life, doesnt matter where in the process it is, its one element of the tests so unless the tests change again its 1 life lost unfortunately.
There are 2 interviews, one is the mmi which forms parts of the psychometrics, the other is the dmi which is the more traditional format of interviewing with a manager, HR etc and doesn't count toward a life lost

So the assesments and the MMI are what will cost a life if failed, the DMI is its own internal interview with the company you are applying for. You are only allowed one fail.

Best of luck. It's safe to say that "I'd phone my union rep", "Wait for it to blow over" or "take my PNB" are not correct answers to any of the questions.

Congrats, you remember your mmi questions by any chance? I’ve got mine next week been prepping tonnes of scenarios was hoping to try narrow them down.

The questions are actually on here, if you search for MMI it should come up. I've seem to have forgotten but some of the questions are to dealing with rules and procedure and emergency.

They haven't changed since then
Thank you mate, so I’m assuming it’s these?

1. Describe a time when you followed rules and procedures
2. Describe a time when you have solved a difficult problem
3. Describe a time when you have been on a training course over 2weeks or greatest achievement
4. Describe a time when you have handled an emergency situation
5. Describe a time when you have worked for long periods of time alone
6. Describe a role you do similar to a train driver?

If you plan for those you won't be far off. Some are similar/same, some are different to those

Sorry no, but they were definitely more exploratory than the DMI in my opinion. The questions are on here somewhere sorry.

Try to remember that it isn't just about what questions get asked. In a lot of cases, it is more than just about the answer you give.

I am aware of this but this is not what I’m currently trying to find out, I’m trying to find out the questions so I can narrow down my scenarios.

In fairness, they do expect you to come up with them in the alloted time given rather than have them already prepared. So don't overthink it.

Exactly this. As I was trying to say earlier but lost in translation between brain and mouth. You really have to be the right person for the job, to be able to think and act under pressure. That’s all part of the interview.

Mmmm I see so they’re quite literally just looking for brief scenarios from us that we can then expand on in response to their probing? I’ve put together so many scenarios and expanded on each massively using the star format so hopefully I’m well prepared for the probing. Typically in interview I’m very calm and good on the spot but I’ve not experienced the MMI before so I can only hope it goes well. I don’t usually have things go my way so I’m not counting my chickens.

Yes. You will put a number of brief scenarios that you know intimately onto a sheet of paper (have about 20-30 minutes), go for lunch and when you come back you will be called 1 at a time to sit the interview.

They will select which ones to use, I think I was asked 3 or 4 of them both times I've sat it. They will asked you to explain in detail each time and they will probe you on your response. Often interjecting and trying to upset your rhythm. OPC like to ask 'how did that make you feel' constantly, TfW were more relaxed and encouraging in conversation.

I was asked to change my scenario on one as they couldn't probe the answers to give them the required responses, so be prepared for that eventuality.

Thank you. I’m assuming you did this on the assessment day? As I’m going in specifically for just the MMI.

Yes. Both times
Was you successful the 2nd time?

I’ve got my MMI with my specific toc at their HR centre, it’s allowed time for 4.5 hours so feels like it’s going to be torture ahah. I emailed to ask if it’s just the mmi and if it’s just me and they confirmed.

I passed MMI both times but wasn't offered a position. 3rd time lucky I hope , though I won't have to resit testing this time.

It might be due to numbers attending as it will be around 90-120 minutes. So if there's say 6 to do and 2 examiners, it will take all afternoon (others may be sitting testing before you arrive also)

They told me it’ll only be me there on the day so lord knows then, I’ll have to update when I’ve done it!

And damn atleast you pass everytime and have experience with it, just a matter of getting the offer next time!
