From memory (ex Driver) Stagecoach Midlands in Northampton charge a flat fare of £1.00 to/from the railway station and the bus station.
I have an ENCTS pass, and the journey from my village into Northampton is just before the 09.25 start of the concession time, I pay £1.80 to the next village, where it is valid, and tap the card in there.
(Unless I know the Driver!)

Would you count any fares subsidised by bodies other than the Government? The Universal in Cambridge is £1 for any single journey for University of Cambridge students and staff, and £1.70 for any single journey for students and staff from any other educational establishment, subsidised by the University.

National Express West Midlands issue a ' Short Hop ' fare. Generally for distances up to 1 mile, priced £1.50. Only to be paid by cash, exact change only, into the fare hopper.
You can pay it by card. The option is on the ticket machine.

Stagecoach have a fare of £1.60 between Blackburn town centre and the hospital on service 59. Blackburn and Rosso (both Transdev) charge £2. Whether that
£2 is the capped fare, the normal fare, or I was just robbed by a driver not pressing the correct buttons I know not.
Looking at the "published" fares, I think they were right.
They're available at https://bustimes.org/services/22-clitheroe-whalley-langho-wilpshire-blackburn-ro/fares but there seems to be a number of different overlapping fare tables for adult singles, but my reading is that no fares are less than £2.

Didn't think of checking there!
My local operator (First Potteries) won't publish fare tables or the method of calculating singles beyond 'it is based on distance' so I'm in the habit of not looking.

Several contracted Wiltshire town services have longstanding adult single fares below £2. From memory, Bradford on Avon town zone is £1.60 and Westbury town zone is £1.80.

One fare I am unsure of is whether First still have a 50p Centro ticket enabling travel for this fare in Sheffield City Centre, anyone know if this is still available?

Transdev Keighley Bus have recently introduced a £1 flat throughout the town.

And to Airedale Hospital - over twice as far in other directions - 3.8 miles / 6.1 kilometres for a quid.

I'm appreciating these fares, living in the area, though it's mildly irritating for the 62 to cost £2 to Steeton Station, just 2 stops off the corridor that the buses to Airedale Hospital travel along. I just need to remember it used to be £2.40 or have a little walk.

The Sheffield Connect bus is still £1 for those who can't get it for free.

A chap who got on the bus I was on in Herne Bay centre, was charged £1.70, Got off at the station so there must still be fares less than £2 around for (extremely) local journeys.

I don't think you can get them from bus drivers, but are any PlusBus fares below £2?

There's quite a few that are £2.50, so will be under for Railcard holders.

PlusBus fares start from just £2.50 a day.

Stagecoach have a flat-fare policy of £1.90
within Hartlepool.

The longest route this applies to is the extended service 3 journeys which traverse from the northern tip of the town to its southern extremities, taking 60 minutes via snaking route.

Could this be the furthest distance permitted for the lowest fare? Naturally current £2 fares allow vast distances to be covered but what’s the furthest one could travel for an adult single fare below £2?

I felt ripped off by the fare from Airedale Hospital to Steeton Station on the Jackson’s 903 being a whopping £1.50 the short distance, whereas £1 would have got me all the way to Keighley bus station on Transdev’s 66 or M4 services.

I was surprised that the 903 wasn't included in the £1 fares as it's the only non-Transdev route in the area and is a subsidised service. It used to be my cheap option into Keighley if I was only making a one-way trip.

Not even contactless?

Not sure if this counts as not available as a paper ticket anymore, but Arriva Yorkshire costs £1.50 for less than a mile if using tap-on-tap-off.
Arriva Yorkshire Fare Changes
Is that a mile between fare stages, or literally a mile stop to stop? I can see the potential for disagreements.

Looking at Stagecoach's journey planner, I could get a single from Blackbird Leys to Cowley in Oxford for £1.40. But the next stop on the route would be £2.
If I was in possession of a jobseeker’s discount card it would be half price. But as that also appears to halve the £2 fares it presumably doesn’t affect this discussion.
