Two separate stories here, both experienced by me:
Last year, I was on a journey where Leg 1 was Avanti West Coast service, and Leg 2 was Transport For Wales, changing at Crewe (for a direct service to Cardiff). When we got to Crewe, we got on our connecting train, sat there for 45 mins, before being informed the train was being cancelled. It turns out there'd been a signal failure. We ended up going via Tamworth and Bristol Parkway, and got to Cardiff 2 hours late. I submitted a DelayRepay to TfW, who rejected it and said it they were forwarding it to Avanti. I appealed, and said I was 2 hours late because of the cancellation of the TfW train. Meanwhile, Avanti also rejected it, and boomeranged it back to TfW. I did get 100% refund eventually from TfW. My colleague on the same train also submitted DelayRepay to TfW, which was also rejected and forwarded to Avanti, who did repay him the full 100%! He was actually told the reason that TfW rejected it: the Avanti service arrived into Crewe 2 mins late, so there was then only a 9 minute connection (the minimum connection time at Crewe is apparently 10 mins).
I submitted a DelayRepay for this journey: https://www.railforums.co.uk/threads/train-not-stopping-when-departure-board-said-it-would.259074/ - in short, I was also 2 hours late on this service. I accidentally submitted it to GWR, rather than CrossCountry - and so it was forwarded to CrossCountry who claimed I was only 3 mins late according to their data. I appealed, with data from RTT / OpenTrainTimes and they have only just (after nearly 2 months) accepted the DelayRepay, although actually no confirmation they'll pay the full 100%:
Given in both these situations I could only appeal because I know of, and understand, some of the more niche websites showing running times, what hope do the normal travelling public have when having submissions rejected? Do other people have similar experiences?
