Well a mixed bag of sorts really

Below are the main meals ( Breakfast Avanti and Evening Meal LNER )

The 0656 Preston - Euston saw 390044 “ Royal Scot “ roll in 3 mins early , tea/coffee offered upon departure from Preston. The lovely lady serving offered me another after both Wigan and Warrington and again after passing Stafford

Breakfast was very nice but certainly not worth the difference between Standard Premium and first class but was hot and tasty

The 17:03 Kings Cross - Leeds saw 91114 “ Durham Cathedral “ in charge was supposed to be dine menu and was looking forward to the gammon but alas Dish was offered , upon departure from the cross alcoholic /cold drinks were offered along with crisps , food orders were taken first class was very busy in total 3 drinks runs plus a hot drink run aswell the Vegetable Masala was nice but dry no sauce

The saving grace was the Jam sponge from the Dine menu was served and was lovely

Sounds good! Is it me, or is the plate which Avanti served your breakfast on somewhat on the small size?

They look like reasonable meals to be fair. I’ve got Avanti First Class Glasgow-Preston this week and I’m interested to see how it goes.

Hope it goes well for you aswell , If it was complimentary I couldn’t argue with the Avanti portions but there’s a steep difference between standard premium which is the same as first class but without the food and drink. So basically travelling first class you are paying a steep price for the food and drink and the portions /quantity should reflect this , even the toast has gone smaller that said it was a very tasty breakfast

Avanti have been great between Glasgow and Preston today; beef ragu was better than expected, crew very obliging. I suspect they would have let me have a chocolate dessert too from the menu but I settled for the chocolate bar option, of which I was given two and they were very nice. Three glasses of wine received, plus opportunities for tea and coffee but those were declined. Three offers of ‘anything else?’ too so they aren’t being shy.

It may well be on the pricey side, but at least the service is there to justify it and the staff aren’t acting like the stock is being taken directly from their wages like on some operators.

West Coast TP next, so could be more wine…

Scotrail HST earlier; service was friendly but the offering was more parsimonious (but that is reflected in the price in fairness), biscuits are top quality and two rounds of hot drinks/biscuits offered between Aberdeen and Edinburgh. Cracking train interior too.

You got a excellent service from Avanti regarding quantity or at least offered , I’ve never had such luck

It is only a small sample size, but of my two first class Avanti journeys this year (the other on the North Wales coast), they have exceeded my expectations on both.

It was TP who were letting the side down yesterday instead.
