A few posters here seem to have had a sense of humour by-pass...

Personally, I love the idea of there being a non-HS1 Kent-Essex rail link, even if Basildon wouldn't be my first choice! It's a very nice attempt to get the geography vaguely right in connection with a slightly doctored tube... sorry, Underground map.

As others have said, I would work on correcting the spelling of places as the next step, then see what other improvements you could make.
'Great minds think alike' @duncombec - I was just about to post something exactly like what you've written! As a fun little exercise which replaces Underground stations with the names of places around Britain, I think this is great. Yes it's not 100% perfect but then again does it need to be completely free of every single error for people to get even just a little bit of enjoyment from it?

@Sprigibax - thanks for sharing this. I think it's really quite interesting and it straddles the line between 'diagram of British rail services' and 'drawing of the Tube map' very well. :)

(P.S. @birchesgreen - your map looks great too. Definitely would've made my travels around Birmingham a while back a fair bit easier!)

Hear hear! In similar vein I would love to be able to get the train at Wells next the Sea rather than having to bus it all the way into Kings Lynn or Norwich!

Minehead to Bridgend is an interesting one.....
Through the Channel Tunnel perhaps, the Bristol Channel that is.

Yes, it all adds to the joys of life. Pedantry is a killer!

Exactly. I can totally see maybe a local rail user group/'Friends of xyz station' putting something similar to this up in a station building just as a bit of fun. Might not make too much sense though if they put a faux-Tube map up in Scottish Highlands... ;)

Please reinstate my local station at Sandwich is within walking distance and much closer than the alternatives you’ve left me of Deal or Ramsgate. Thanks!

At least Dalmellington will now have a direct rail link to Liverpool and then Landrindod Wells / Methyr Tydfil (sic).

The Weymouth area is probably the most accurate representation of reality on the map. Two lines splitting at Dorchester to head towards London and Bath. They even have the correct colours - Black for SWR and green for GWR.

The stopping pattern for the “SWML” isn’t far off either. Only Lymington, Hythe, Guildford, Epsom and Sutton are the anomalies. As for the “Heart of Wessex”, that appears to take a much more direct route to Bath than the real thing.

The ones who think it's supposed to be a real usable rail map instead of just a fun Tube map-inspired art project

I think it is a nice bit of fun - I wish Leamington and Rugby still had the direct LNWR line in real life - and Towcester connected too!
