There is this additional service pathed in RTT for tomorrow, assuming because Derby County are at home to Port Vale.

Does anyone know what units will work this service? Is it likely to be a Longer Train?

The allocations are usually viewable later on the night before. EMR have been operating 4 & 5 carriages on odd weekends recently so may be the same for this extra tomorrow.

It's going straight back empty stock, so the 2151 off Stoke will be the last one back. As it's ECS, it's a shame they can't just run it on to Longport & turn it back at Kidsgrove Jn.

edit: as said above lol

Looking at the Traksy layout in that area I think the problem would have been finding somewhere to turn it after Longport. It would go nearly as far as Alsanger to find somewhere to turn it and honestly as far as Crewe to have it parked up for a return working.

Considering a move to Memphis
They've been known to put 222s on football extras on this line before now. But that's usually when Derby are playing at Stoke. Surprised they are bothering for Port Vale ...

Would it actually be any more convenient if it went to Longport? There's no bus connections (at that time of day), no taxi rank and no parking. Unless you live within walking distance of the station it's pretty useless. I guess some may fancy the walk up into Burslem for a drink in one of the "Vale" pubs?

Most likely 158 or 170 as comes from Nottingham beforehand. The last 2 weekends has seen a mix of 2, 4 and 5 cars on the North Staffs.

The 16th is Midlands Grand National at Uttoxeter. Looking at the additional's there seem to be some interesting calling patterns:
0814 Derby - Crewe stopping at Tutbury and Uttoxeter
1001 Crewe - Derby stopping at Stoke
0945 Nottingham - Uttoxeter (via Derby and normal stops), 1740 returning from Uttoxeter
1725 Derby - Crewe stopping at Blythe Bridge, Stoke, Kidsgrove, Alsager
1900 Crewe - Derby stopping at Stoke, Blythe Bridge, Uttoxeter, Tutbury

Quite a few changes in EMR land on the 16th March as the Hope Valley line is closed (as is the direct route from Chesterfield to Sheffield) so customers travelling from the East Midlands to the North West will need to travel via Stoke. This should however free up a number of units to strengthen other services as well as run the additional services highlighted above. Also noticed that the Nottingham to Matlock services are being split at Derby according to Realtime Trains. In addition the Midland Main Line is closed between Luton and Bedford so there should be some spare Meridians if required.

If it is a five car, say a 222, is Longport Station long enough to accommodate a five car train these days?
More than long enough. I'm just surprised there are that many people wanting to watch Port Vale play!

Longport is a fairly easy walk to Vale Park. If the hooligans did any vandalism on their way it would only improve the area :D

Oh I know that, but as it was an away game I can't really see why people would want to get back to Vale Park afterwards.

As for the latter point, I totally agree. They certainly couldn't make it any worse!
