On a old post made by (Philip) in 2020 (johnathan h) commented about 15 185s being on lease as they were originally going to only stay till December 2021 to driver training for the mk5 sets could take place does anyone have a clue if they are still going to emr at any point or have plans fell through?

I think that might be an out of date comment. There has been no official plans, however there was talk of it when TPE were not going to keep all the 185s. However with the withdrawal of the MK5s all 185s are staying at TPE until the yet to be ordered replacement stock arrives.

Are all 175s out of service? Could these not be made reliable?

More 185s are running as 3 cars which even with Mk5 withdrawal we shouldn’t be seeing. Today it was 50:50 3 car 6 car on the south TP.

As has been said 185s are staying out but even if they were moving it would cause problems.

Is there a source quoted? Is it up to date?
The source quoted is a railway gazette article from 2020 which states the following:
One option favoured by industry insiders would see EMR take on 15 Class 185 Desiro trainsets which are due to be released by TPE during 2021 as its fleet renewal programme concludes. These trains are maintained by Siemens at its conveniently located Ardwick depot in Manchester.
Clearly the TPE 185s were not released as expected, and now are really needed by TPE

Not happening with the withdrawals of the Nova 3 sets. TPE is undercapacity as it is, would be awful to get rid of more.

I don't think so

Yer I do believe it was before tpe retired the mk5 sets

Following the August 2020 decision not to transfer the Liverpool Lime Street to Nottingham route from East Midlands Railway (EMR) to TransPennine Express, EMR has the option to lease these trains to prevent stock shortages on this route.[60] there u go :)

Which if you follow the reference, it shows Wikipedia to be wrong - it actually says:
One option favoured by industry insiders would see EMR take on 15 Class 185 Desiro trainsets which are due to be released by TPE during 2021 as its fleet renewal programme concludes. These trains are maintained by Siemens at its conveniently located Ardwick depot in Manchester.

"One option favoured by industry insiders" is not the same as "EMR has the option to lease these trains".
