If you are a train driver or a rail operations manager in the UK- the Rail Safety & Standards Board (RSSB) wants to hear from you!

The RSSB T1280 project aims to understand the effectiveness of current control measures to prevent unauthorised mobile smart device use in the driver cab. This survey is an opportunity to be part of the conversation and provide your insights into the topic.

The anonymous survey includes a series of questions exploring mobile smart device use, and the effectiveness of company policies. It also looks to identify opportunities for mobile smart devices in the drivers cab.

The survey is open until 15th March and we look forward to hearing you.
If you want to find out more about the project you can read more at Evaluating the effectiveness of control measures for unauthorised mobile devices in the cab (T1280) (rssb.co.uk)

First question on the Drivers survey. "What is your age"

18-24.....

Question 7 on the Manager's Survey is a bit difficult to answer if there hasn't been any incidents

I think it’s an age range, but you can’t be a train driver until 21.

Assuming the survey includes London Underground you can drive from 18 and you can begin training for a main line operator at 20 although you can't drive alone until 21.

I’ve completed the survey. I’ve also received an email from Aslef encouraging drivers to complete it. That sort of demonstrates the unions willingness to support change for the future of the railways which will be forgotten about if more strikes are announced…..

I'm curious to know what sort of changes this project is likely to bring about...

I’m pretty sure it’s only drivers on NR infrastructure. That makes sense as LU train operators are subject to a completely different rule book and licensing regime.

Hello, thank you very much to everyone who have already completed our survey! We’ve received an incredible number of responses (approaching 2000 responses for drivers and 50+ for ops managers) and really appreciate your help and support.

We’re replying to this post to hopefully give it a boost for visibility. If you are a train driver or operations manager in the UK, this is a gentle reminder that the survey closes this Friday (15/03).

Don’t miss your chance to provide your insights around the effectiveness of current control measures to prevent unauthorised mobile smart device use in the driver cab!
