Everything is then west midlands or sold out ? Apart from a refund what can we do ? Or even go from chester as we are coming from port sunlight ?

Board the 0740. Reservations aren't really compulsory, but it will be busy!

Check your return though, there appear to be quite a lot of cancellations, if the trip isn't essential you may well prefer to get a refund and try again another day.

Additional Information
You can travel on the Avanti West Coast service immediately before or after this train with your original ticket. Unfortunately, any seat reservations will not be carried over, please speak to a member of our team to find out wheres best to sit.
Were sorry for the delay to your journey, you might be entitled to some compensation. Head to avantiwestcoast.co.uk/delayrepay for more information.
Looks like 16:43, 17:43 & 18:43 from Euston are all cancelled as well. As are 17:02 & 19:02 to Chester. 18:02 still running?

Maybe the staff are all rugby vans and that is going to be one scrum getting home after the match ?

It’s pathetic!

I didn’t think there was industrial action this weekend?

Although as the trains have been cancelled the day before under the "timetable of the day" rule are Avanti like Northern in taking a hard-line of refusing delay repay when they get cancelled the night before?

LNR services between Liverpool & Crewe [and vice versa] will be even busier, especially the ones which run just behind the Avanti heading north (and departs 10 minutes before the London train at Liverpool).

One can only presume they therefore chose a fairly busy day for maximum effect . My delay repay refund has been accepted. If they could placate my partner as well that would help.

Do you mean refund for not travelling? Delay Repay is only available to be claimed after the journey.

Don't refund the tickets and then travel, you might find yourself at the pointy end of a prosecution.

So if there's been no RDW agreement for ages, why is this so bad this week, surely every week would be about the same? High sickness? Or is the holiday year to 31st March and people are taking them now so they don't lose them?

I don't believe it's any worse than some recent Saturday's, this thread claims over seventy cancellations in a day and a more recent Saturday had 40+ cancellations (including the last two Manchester to London services). Leave and sickness are insignificant compared to the lack of rest day work agreement

Staff being forced to work when they don't want to have my sympathy . Fortunately we didn't book anything in london that could be changed and for the record we cancelled and now wait for our refund.

Saturdays have been awful on Avanti for a few weeks now. It cannot continue as it currently is, the service is literally unusable in its current state. At least 9 services have already been cancelled today, and it’s 08:28! Mostly traincrew shortages (how do we still have these when they’ve supposedly managed to train 100 more drivers!?)

A RDW agreement is desperately needed, as a Rugby resident I rely on Avanti quite heavily in order to travel to London, Birmingham and Manchester over the weekends. Additional stop orders seem hard to come by too, which makes it worse for the Avanti stops on WCML south.

All I can say is, thank god for LNR!

The message for most people will be that rail is an unreliable industry and that it is better to drive.

Correct. I was booked on the 12:33 Lime Street to New Street four coach LNR yesterday, and we were not overjoyed waiting for its arrival to hear an announcement telling Avanti passengers for the 12:43 to make their way to platform 6 and board the LNR, and change at Crewe. It was cosy to say the least. Some of the rows of three seats even had people squashed into all three. It was an un-refurbed train with the green seats, so not even phone charging points. Bit of a cattle truck unfortunately.

I sat opposite a chap who was concerned about getting a seat on the 13:32 from Crewe - he couldn't wait for a later one as he had to get to Euston by 15:30. I imagine that train was pretty horrendous, only nine coaches too. Ours thinned out a bit at Crewe but was pretty busy all the way to Birmingham. As per usual on a Friday, despite the increased number of services it's still only the same capacity as when they were hourly 8-coaches.

We didn't get to Crewe until 13:28 on platform 6, and the 13:32 was departing from platform 1. Unsurprisingly it appears to have departed four minutes late. Even then I wonder whether people managed to make the connection up and over the bridge. Platform 1 isn't all that easy to find either.

A train was full and people wanted to use all of the seats? I just want to make sure I've got that right.

Point taken, but it was a very cold day and everyone had big coats on, so it was quite a squash to sit three in a row! Most of them hugging their luggage too as there was nowhere else to put it.

With regard to staff (not the driver) who should be working the cancelled services yesterday what do they do ?

This is a good example of why existing working practices are unacceptable that rely on voluntary overtime.

Avanti do seem to be very keen on putting off as many people travelling by train as possible.

On a recent journey the TM was in a vile mood. He refused to do any announcements. He sat in the office, with his back to the door, reading a book. He did come out to close the doors at stations, but only after all passengers were off so he didn't have to speak to them. He didn't interact with any station staff (above the minimum required to despatch) and had a face like thunder the entire journey. Customer service at its finest!
