Berlin Brandenburg to Dresden question

Later this month I'll be going form Berlin Brandenburg airport to Dresden. I'm fairly sure when I checked a little while back there was an Intercity service taking about 1h30. Now when I check, say, departures after 20:00 everything seems to be running via Leipzig and taking around 3 to 4 hours.

Is there engineering, or something else that means there are no direct Berlin-Dresden trains at the moment?

I have an evening flight back on the 28th March, and not having good experience of DB last time I needed to catch a flight (Hannover to Hamburg, arriving 4 hours late....that was "fun")

I can see a direct service tomorrow night at 9:01, takes 1h26m, same the following Thursday, but 28/3 requires changes and takes a lot longer

I'd assume engineering works as the later than c.2030hrs direct trains don't run from this coming Saturday onwards. So the c.2130hrs change Leipzig appears to be the only viable option. You can still go a more direct route (not via Leipzig) by taking several RE trains, via Jueterbog....but it takes forever!

The Dresdnerbahn is being upgraded, but I don't know how far they have got.
Links to BER airport will be improved as well.

Engineering work lasting several weeks!
IC2275 (the last evening IC to Dresden, which you referred to) is diverted via the usual alternative route through Jüterbog, and so are all trains in the week before Easter. You therefore have to travel in and out of Berlin.
The regional trains are also cut, and various diversions are offered.

Thanks all, explains a lot....there are some interesting routes being suggested by DB - one including 5 changes. Getting back to the airport on time is my biggest concern

I've found regional trains generally more punctual than long distance IC services, however I always allow 15 minutes for connections whatever DB may suggest on its planner.....this can and often does increase journey times from those offered by the planner but also makes cross Germany travel less stressful.

Just had to change flights...departing the airport at 20h00 means arriving in Dresden long after midnight....coming back isn't a problem as I have plenty of time (which with my experiences with DB is very necessary)

Now I'm wondering if I should have flow to Prague instead as I did last time I was there

In case you´re a bit more open-minded-or perhaps have no staff privileges or the like;
FLIXbus also runs from direct @ airport to DD and will not suffer from trackworks-but works on the Autobahn=motorway may also happen. Offers several trips in the eve.
There is -on some days-in the eve also even a FLIXtrain=quite basic and quite cheap, from B-Südkreuz stop (buy ticket to get there)
