Travelling tomorrow, Tuesday, from London Liverpool St to Cromer.
I intend to travel on either the 19:02 (£38-50)or the 20:30 (£34).

If I buy the ticket for the 19:02 but miss it will they let me on the 20:30 or will I have to buy a new ticket.

Second question. When do these cheaper tickets expire? If I buy tomorrow they are a lot more expensive.

Thanks for any help it will be much appreciated.

Sub question. I am going to Cromer then the following day travelling on to Leicester. IS there a way to buy one ticket for the whole journey Liverpool Street to Cromer to Leicester?

Thanks again

Presume the £38.50 and £34.00 fares are undiscounted standard class Advance tickets. These are booked train only. If you buy an advance ticket for the earlier train and miss it, then you'd almost certainly have to pay again.

Doubt that there is one ticket valid for a London Liverpool Street to Leicester journey via Cromer with overnight break of journey, other than a very expensive 7 or 14 day All Line Rover. Likely you'll need a couple of day tickets.

Many thanks both MCR and Haywain. Very kind of you to help.

When do the cheaper tickets vanish from the site? Is it 24 hours before travel. Or is it at midnight tonight? Thanks

It depends how Greater Anglia have set them up and how many are left.

If they're set for "Advance Purchase on the Day" it could be as late as five minutes before departure (theoretically right up to departure time, but most ticket issuing systems have an earlier cut-off time.)

If they're not, then 23:59 tonight is most likely.

They could, of course, increase in price before that, if someone buys the last one at your price.

If you want flexibility you could consider an Offpeak Return (which you can buy at the station) price £70.80 then a separate Advance Single from St Pancras to Leicester - that is, if you don't want to return via Peterborough.

You'd want an Advance for the leg to Leicester either way.

Question.
I am travelling from Leicester to London tomorrow. Could I buy a ticket from Leicester to Manningtree (one of the cheap fixed time tickets from Leicester). then spend the day in london then continue to manningtree later in the day.
cos a ticket from manningtree to cromer is cheap
BUT will they allow me to break my journey in london for 6 hours. on the train times NRE it gives a time of train from Liverpool st to cromer . So I wouldn't be catching that.
Thanks for any help

Provided that you
  1. buy the "+ANY PERMITTED" ticket (as opposed to the "NOT VIA LONDON" one, so unlikely to be a problem), and
  2. comply with all restrictions on times of use of the off-peak return or super-offpeak single/return
then, yes, you can spend the day in London for as long as you want.
Of course, if you buy the anytime single/return there are no time restrictions.

EDIT But I think you refer to an advance ticket with "one of the cheap fixed time tickets from Leicester", in which case ignore what I've said above.

Hi again. I am buying a single. Not a return. And it's for a fixed time train from Leicester.

I am planning on the
11.04 from leicester to manningtree (est arrival 16.53) via st pancras
i selected maximum transfer time of 2 hours. which puts me on the 16.00 from liverpool st to manningtree

but i intend to catch the 19.02 from liverpool st to manningtree.

it says on the site

Advance Single£50.50

Tickets are valid only on the date and train service(s) shown on the ticket(s). Where applicable, valid only for travel in the class and reserved seat(s) shown on the ticket(s).

Only valid on booked EMR services and required connecting services.

Valid on EMR (TOC Code: EMT) and connecting services.
Seat reservations are compulsory.

If you've got a booked train only ticket then you must follow the itinerary given (unless there's disruption, if one of your trains was cancelled or you missed a connection due to a delay you'd be able to travel on a different train). You would therefore not be able to break your journey in London.

However some booking sites, such as the Forums, have advanced options that can force a change with extra time. For instance, here is a search for tomorrow from Leicester to Manningtree which includes a lot of journeys that give six hours in London. They're booked train only so you must travel on the trains in the itinerary but they give a long time in London.

Well I asked the Forum's ticketing site to get a ticket from Leicester to Manningtree with a 360 minutes holdover at Liverpool Street, and it offered the 11.04 from Leicester arriving St Pancras 12.24, followed by the 19.02 from Liverpool Street to Manningtree. The fare was £50.50
Does that sound like a good deal? You would have to be on those exact trains. You could get a Manningtree to Cromer advance single for £13.20, stay on the train at Manningtree to Norwich, and change there for Cromer.
