Makes sense to test and install it before such levels if its possible. Especially seeing how delayed the units are already, more procrastination and it could end up arriving just before they're scrapped.

Both Botha signify a unit move. If was light engine would be a 0xxx path

Quite a few are coming out of storage now. Good sign I guess.

Think they are being rotated to/from storage, I forget the exact quantity but only about a dozen units can be held in normal SWR sidings without impacting operations.

SWR has apparently accepted 50 10car and 21 5car units (per Rail magazine), which is 605 of 750 vehicles (80.66%), so has to store roughly 480 accepted vehicles elsewhere.

What I (and I know others too) find so difficult is why the 5car Aventra happily operates on London Overground, Anglia, and C2C, (and similar units are now working in West Midlands), but SWR cannot get more than 2 shortish round trips per day out of its fleet. Sort of makes you wonder how much is defective units, and how much is lack of properly trained staff on SWR

Since I found out that training didn't start in January as it was supposed to and still hasn't started I've given up on anything positive. Can't see any of them entering service this year (apart from the current "plastic" service).

It's a big shame because the units are such a step up from the current fleet and they're not available to the passengers who need them.. and with summer approaching soon it's back to the oven for another year

Its not defective or poorly trained staff, it's a lack of training of the staff.

The staff exist to be trained and can be rostered off to be trained, but it seems SWR/Firstgroup are in no rush to implement a training plan for said staff.

The current holdup isnt to do with staff training.

I believe it’s testing of the platform infrastructure around the network, signal sighting, and any other issues that may arise at each platform.
I'm going to say the obvious thing that's the response to most information on this thread: Why didn't they do this in the 4 other years they had?

And how long have they had to do this testing???

There is still issues at multiple stations with DOO cameras not getting enough light for the train to safely be operated without the guard operating the doors

All those words no more than words and the truth is the SWR doesn`t want really to introduce 701s. It doesn`t want and I don`t know why...

But as they are running regularly on the Windsor services what is to stop them being fully booked on those services and the appropriate staff trained

Yet elsewhere it's reported that it's due to further software issues.

As usual multiple reasons for the further delay are being banded around, some of which are undoubtedly untrue.

That's probably closer to the truth than any other claimed reasons.

I get the impression that SWR doesn’t know why, either.

Well, if they really didn't want to introduce them, I doubt they'd have quite a few dedicated roles to do with the Arterio. One job title is "Head of Arterio Mobilisation"

So why hasn't driver training started?

DOO platform testing shouldn't affect training when only 3 stations on the current route aren't signed off and still degraded.

And most importantly, what is the current hold up and how does this affect running more than the token 2 full journeys Monday to Friday?

What I believe to be new ABDO beacons at Richmond, although it should be noted at this time there are no plans for these to be used in passenger service, so likely nothing for at least for the next few years or so.. but better to have then than not

So a bit like the 701s themselves then.
