Believe this is fixed sooner rather than later.

The article also fails to mention the key requirement for the Hope Valley to deliver TRU diversions, not necessarily just for additional fast paths in the short term.
It will be interesting to see how all aspects work out in practice. Drax trains have been routed this way adding much time to their journey and limiting, if not cancelling passenger service performance improvements.

In 3 - 6 months time we'll be able to assess how it's going.

Neither TPE nor EMR have enough carriages to significantly increase current train lengths, let alone run any extra services. Much the same goes for Northern without them being taken from other services.

The lifts at Dore are out of service so the station is no longer ‘accessible’. (The previous ‘land side’ single bi-directional platform was effectively ‘level access’.)

Article from The Stir:

Sheffield-Manchester trains: Long wait for extra fast trains likely despite £145m rail upgrade

There will be no extra fast train between Sheffield and Manchester, for now at least, following the completion of the £145m Hope Valley railway line upgrade. Inset is Councillor Shaffaq Mohammed, who said
Advertisement

But despite creating a passing loop on the line to make this possible in future, Network Rail now says additional work is required, and the commitment to delivering those extra trains appears to be wavering.

Liberal Democrat councillors in Sheffield now claim the decision on whether to introduce an extra hourly fast service has been left to the Manchester Recovery Taskforce, to consider as part of its remit to improve services in the
Manchester area, leaving Sheffield out of the loop altogether.

'Simply unacceptable'

Martin Smith, Liberal Democrat councillor for Dore and Totley, said: "10 years in the planning, 3 years in the building and 1 week before completion we find out that one of the most important benefits of this project will not be delivered. It was only after I made enquiries that we were told the additional trains would not be running.
"I welcome improvements from the upgrade such as the new platform at Dore and Totley station in my ward, but to keep such a fundamental change quiet from the people of Sheffield until the project is nearly completed is simply unacceptable."

Dore & Totley station in Sheffield, where a second platform and a footbridge has been created as part of the £145m Hope Valley railway line upgrade.

Work to upgrade the railway line, which began in spring 2021 and was initially scheduled for completion at the end of 2023, is finally due to be finished when the route reopens on Monday, March 25, after a 10-day closure.

As well as the passing loop to remove bottlenecks, signalling improvements have been made to improve reliability, longer platforms created to accommodate more carriages and a second platform and new footbridge has been installed at Dore & Totley station.

'Faster, more reliable, accessible railway'

Network Rail, which was responsible for the upgrade, said it would bring passengers a 'faster, more reliable, accessible' railway between Sheffield and Manchester.
But Ben Shaw, sponsor for the Transpennine Route Upgrade, added: "Before increasing the number of train services through this area, other essential railway work in Manchester and Sheffield, alongside timetable adjustments would need to take place.

"This is part of ongoing work being carried out by the railway industry, which will enable additional trains to run in future."

Network Rail was unable to provide a timescale for that additional work and the fact it said this 'would' need to happen rather than 'will' suggests the extra hourly train may never materialise.

Commitment made just last month

The Star asked whether it was correct that the decision now lay with the Manchester Recovery Taskforce, and we are awaiting a response.
Only last month, rail minister Huw Merriman had reaffirmed the Government's commitment to delivering a third hourly fast train between Manchester and Sheffield.

Responding to a parliamentary question by Sheffield South East MP Clive Betts about the timescales for the third fast train, Mr Merriman said: "The Government is committed to upgrading the Hope Valley line which would help enable a third fast train between Manchester and Sheffield."

But he failed to give any timescale on when those extra trains might start running, nor did the Department for Transport (DfT) or rail operators in the area do so when asked by The Star for more information.
The Star again contacted the DfT for a response to the Liberal Democrats' claims but was told it was a matter for Network Rail.

Councillor Shaffaq Mohammed, leader of the Sheffield Liberal Democrats and parliamentary spokesperson for Sheffield Hallam, said: "We are continually losing out on the changes needed to transform public transport across the city, and this is just the latest example.

"Giving the decision on an intercity train line to the Manchester Recovery Taskforce means the people of Sheffield will have no input. Is Mayor Coppard leaving a key decision to Andy Burnham?
"Sheffield already has a second class bus network when compared to cities like Manchester, and now it seems we will also have a second class train service."
The industry can't just keep spending vast amounts of money on enhancements and then not deliver what was promised when the project was authorised.

I did say they should have put a ramp in. Far cheaper in the long run than maintaining lifts, much harder to vandalise as well.

Just watching on the signaling diagram and it seems the Liverpool Norwich trains are missing out Sheffield entirely via the single line at Dore S and W? I am presuming some issues?

I was about to post exactly the same thing, I spotted 1R74 and 1L14 both skip round the newly extended south loop to bypass Dore and Sheffield completely.

Press release

From Saturday 16 March to Sunday 24 March, the Hope Valley Railway Upgrade team worked around the clock to deliver vital upgrades, as the programme edges closer to full completion.

Over the nine-day period, track installation and drainage works were carried out in the Dore & Totley area, with the Dore South Curve extension completed – these upgrades have increased the capacity through Dore & Totley by doubling the number of tracks in and out of the station, whilst track work in Grindleford was also completed.

Additionally, engineers worked on the new second platform at Dore & Totley station, now linked to the existing platform via an accessible footbridge. During the work, the existing platform was extended to accommodate longer trains.

Some final work is set to be completed in the coming weeks which will include the commissioning of the new lifts, making the station fully accessible for customers.

Elsewhere on the route, a new cutting-edge signalling system was installed which will be controlled by our Rail Operating Centre (ROC) in York. This replaces the mechanical signalling equipment, improving the reliability of services on the Hope Valley line.

Traksy has the new layout, albeit with a couple of glitches I think. Haven't had time to observe it much yet.
Please let me know about any glitches on here or by email. I basically did the map based on information in this thread, which may well not have been final.

Why is the new platform P1? Is that to match the other stations? We're probably not going to get platforms on the Chesterfield route, but a man can dream

Looks odd in this scenario but it makes it match the rest of the Hope Valley.

For consistency with whole line signalling apparently, the westbound platform is on the up line to Manchester whereas it's down to Sheffield from both Manchester and London..

An observation first about freight - they seem to be coming faster through the old platform, now down Platform 2, benefitting from a clear path.

I'm not a video blogger but managed to record some early trains this morning, notably the first TPE and EMR 6 car services to stop at new Platform 1 on a dismal morning, although the birds sounded happy enough.

First to stop was TPE's 5.20 for Lime Street, not advertised until Saturday so nobody got on. One alighted - he'd been the last to alight at the old platform 39 years ago before it was demolished. See,

Second EMR service to stop was their 6 car 7.36, also for Lime Street, see;
The EMR London-Sheffield service is stopped where the old Platform 3 used to be.

It was rather a miserable morning weatherwise.

That's incorrect.

It's Up from Manchester to Dore Station Jn, so the Sheffield bound platform is on the Up Hope Valley line. The Manchester bound platform is on the Down Hope Valley line, then it's Down to Manchester.

From Dore Station Jn it is as you say Down to Sheffield.

I cannot see it on any videos or signalling diagrams, but wondered if there was another signal between Dore Station P2 and where the extended section merges with the MML. Is there enough room for one?

Just when you thought it was safe to go back on the trains, a press release saying there will be another line closure from 27 April to 1 May, to rebuild what I presume is this rabbit-hole sized underline bridge at Hope:

(the above link is to Google Streetview of low arch bridge over Bowden Lane, Hope)

and here is the press release that says it:

Network Rail is advising passengers of work to rebuild a railway bridge in Hope, Derbyshire, on the picturesque Hope Valley line.

£3.4m is being invested to make the bridge safe and reliable for years to come.

To carry out the work, buses will replace trains between Sheffield and Manchester from Saturday 27 April – Wednesday 1 May 2024. Passengers are advised to check with their train operator or at www.nationalrail.co.uk before they travel.

From 29 March, Bowden Lane, in Hope, will be closed to make sure the work can be carried out safely. Diversions will be in place and clearly marked.

Theresa Nibloe, scheme project manager at Network Rail, said: “We’re investing £3.4m to rebuild a bridge along this key corridor between Sheffield and Manchester. The work will make sure the bridge is safe and reliable for rail passengers and road users for years to come.

“I’d like to thank passengers and the local community for their patience while the essential work is carried out. Please check before you travel between Sheffield and Manchester from Saturday 27 April to Wednesday 1 May 2024.”

A spokesperson for the train operators Northern and TransPennine Express said: “All investment in rail infrastructure is welcomed and we would ask for our customers patience while these important works are carried out. Rail replacement busses are in place but customers are advised to check before they travel.”

Sections of the railway line between Manchester and Sheffield are closed from Saturday 16 March to Sunday 24 March as work is carried out to complete the final phase of the Hope Valley Railway Upgrade.

This work also affects Sheffield station, with a much smaller number of platforms available only for longer-distance trains to use. Passengers travelling from, to or through Sheffield should check before they travel.

Since they say "rebuild" it, I wonder if they propose to make it any higher or wider for road vehicles. Seems unlikely for that price.

Higher probably not by a lot, if any, but they're likely to dig out the abutments and replace it with a prefabricated concrete box structure, so it's certainly possible there'll be some improvement.

Hope they put a timelapse of the weekend up.

Its slowly collapsing, and has been braced in the actual arch to stop bricks falling out. Long overdue.
