Off peak day returns missing - Nantwich to Stafford

This seems to have been a problem recently but off peak day returns have been missing from travel on the Nantwich to Stafford journeys. Although the headline fare is there (£13.80) as soon as you click to purchase, it only offers the Anytime £16.20 fare.

This is also the case at the machines at the platform. I presume you can still purchase an off peak return on the train, but not sure why these are missing recently. Anyone shed any light?

Have Off Peak Day Returns recently been withdrawn for this particular flow? (Fare setter is West Midlands Trains). Can only see £13.80 Anytime Day Singles or £16.20 Anytime Day Returns as currently being available.

Who (or where) is still offering Off Peak Day Returns?

The fares database only lists:

Anytime Day Single - £13.80 (presumably the 'headline' £13.80 you are seeing)

Anytime Day Return - £16.20

Seven Day Season - £71.20

There are no Off-Peak fares listed.

They don't appear to have been removed recently, as there are no Off-Peak fares listed going back 13 months. (BRfares doesn't list historic fares any further back than February 2023.)

Same situation going back to 2021 looking at some old Avantix Traveller databases I've got.

Cheers, Hadders.

So looking as though this has been the normal situation for quite some time then it would appear.

One consequence of only having anytime day returns on a flow is that people think the off peak equivalent is missing and they are being overcharged as a result, yet people often call for the same fare to be applied all day.

Thanks for the insights. Prior to the recent price rise, I would pay around £15.20 for a peak time anytime return and at weekends it would be £12.80 return. I never travelled during weekday off peak so can't compare. Trying to dig out an old ticket to see what it was listed as, but I certainly have travelled on an off peak in the last 12 months.

What chance that the current Anytime Day Return is renamed Off Peak Day Return and a new Anytime Day Return created ci=osting around £25.

This is the railway so it's bound to happen....

Doing some digging in Knowledgebase, there haven't been Off-Peak Day Returns since at least September 2008:

Image shows an extract from the archived "Fares Finder" for NFM01 (September 2008), which is presented in the same format as the old paper National Fares Manuals. Only First Class Anytime Day Single and Return, Anytime Day Single and Return, and Weekly Season fares are shown for the journey in question.

I wonder if the weekend fares were a discounted advance fare then I used to get. I honestly thought it was just an off peak ticket. Because I've largely purchased tickets on the train from TFW I've not got any evidence to hand which is annoying but it definitely didn't cost the same price as travelling at peak times.

As best I can determine, the Anytime Day Single fare from Nantwich to Stafford was £12.50 just prior to the March 2023 fares increase, then it went up to £13.20 and is now £13.80.

The Anytime Day Return fare was £14.50 in early 2023, then was £15.40 and is now £16.20.

Can't see the fare tiers (or any Off Peak tickets) that you reference above, certainly not recently, unless, of course, they were split fares.

Happy to be corrected.
