Disused railway line and bridge in Adare, Ireland being removed

I visited Adare on Thursday and walked up the riverside path to the site of the old station. On Google Maps it shows a disused railway station, railway line and the Maigue Railway Bridge. However, I discovered the area is undergoing construction work. It looks like a utility company has dismantled the upper part of the bridge to run a new pipeline across the river and they're currently in the process of taking up the railway track. The station house looks like it's occupied, so presumably that's the one part of the railway hertiage that will remain.

They are rebuilding the Limerick-Foynes line: completion of most of the civil work was due by late this year, but may have been delayed by objections regarding the bridge over the Maigue. Reopening to freight was due in 2025.

Ah, so it's reopening to freight. Presumably the pipes crossing the river are being done ahead of a railway bridge being reinstated then?

Search Foynes Railway Project on YouTube. You will find drone footage of the progress to re-instate the Limerick to Foynes line including bridging the Maigue River at Adare. Fascinating to see as I managed to travel over the Foynes branch twice before it closed.

Sadly the train shed at Foynes, long derelict, finally collapsed in the recent gales. I believe there is talk of running passenger specials to Adare for the Ryder Cup in 2027 and eventually for a 'Limerick Metro' service from Adare across the city to Ennis.

Not specifically the old Adare station, but there is a new drone flyover of the Adare area where construction of the bypass has just started and parts of the railway trackbed are visible

The old rail route towards Newcastle West was paved few years ago and is now known as Limerick Greenway.

Adare is getting a bypass ahead of 2027 Ryder Cup, which is an extension of M21 motorway to Rathkeale, where it joins the N21 which was widened about 20-30 years ago. There will also be a new wide single carriageway road from the motorway to port of Foynes. There are also plans for dual carriageway bypasses of Newcastle West and Abbeyfeale to improve remaining bottlenecks to Kerry, Tralee etc on N21

That will be handy. I've done the drive from Limerick to Tralee and onwards to Castlegregory a number of times and it always seems to take much longer than it should.
