There are loads of Ukrainian plates on very expensive cars in London.

I've seen the same in Germany, including in somewhat run-down areas where they looked a bit out of place with the local German cars

Here in Finland, Russian plates are still common - mainly on trucks and busses. Ukranian plates are around, Belorussian too. I've seen a couple of Uzbekistan plates, otherwise various from over Europe, including a few UK plates. Diplomatic plates are common in Helsinki. Ironically the ones we see the least are the Åland plates, despite Åland being part of Finland.

The most exotic was years ago, probably 1997/1998 in Falmouth where a black Bentley (might have been an Aston Martin...anyway, *expensive*) pulled up at the quayside with the number plate "7"

There's a car with Hong Kong plates regularly parked around Drummond Street/North Gower Street, I used to see it on my way out of Euston. Presumably some real money behind it given the distance to HK, the costs/fees to run a car in HK, and the location in very central London!

I've also an old Lada Riva with Ukraine plates recently, and I've seen Isle of Man plates in Bristol.

Once saw a campervan on Austrian plates in the Canary Islands.

I've seen at least two cars in Europe on US plates - one on a fairly newish Dodge RAM in Newcastle I think, and another on Connecticut plates somewhere in France about 15 years ago.

Other exotic ones in recent years have been Qatar, Kuwait, Turkey, Serbia and Ukraine.

I've seen at least one photo of a campervan on Chinese plates on a campsite somewhere in the UK which is quite the spot.

Furthest I've ever seen was a big USA gas guzzler with a "Guam" plate. Was years ago, can't remember where.

Must have been a USA serviceman who got it ferried across

Mostly Glasgow-ish. Mostly.
A couple of years back I saw a very shiny Audi Q3 with Texas plates booming down the M6.

Also works the other way. A couple of decades prior I overtook a UK-registered Jaguar while driving around the Cascades in Washington state.

Azerbaijan registered lorry in the Baltics. I reckon it's they can operate from Russia while it's difficult for Russian lorries to enter EU.

  • quite a few Kazakh lorries across the UK
  • Florida licence plated Nissan near Hunstanton (which, did not appear to be related to military)
  • Northern Territories (Oz) Volvo V70 near Brackley
  • New South Wales (Oz) Land Cruiser in Newcastle

Possibly the one and the same NSW Land Cruiser seen in Darlington Sep 21 and a couple of times since.

Just the other day I saw a 1990s sedan car in Kidderminster that appeared to have Canadian plates (and not a UK registration put onto Canadian style plates). Maybe it's been imported? Though I guess DVLA would want it registered here if kept here for any length of time?

Last summer I saw two motorhomes in convoy around the Bath area with Falkland Islands plates. Certainly an unusual sight. I wonder whether they’d overlanded on some epic adventure.

Pretty unlikely they had overlanded given the distance involved and, err, the country they would have had to go to first.

Around my local area, (macclesfield in cheshire, but also north west & manchester) I've seen:

UA - Ukraine
GR - Greece

Also get a ton of trucks over here fairly regularly from holland delivering fresh flowers to the various florists. As usual get a ton of trucks from abroad, mainly from:

Bulgaria
Lithuania
Belgium
Poland
France
Holland

It wasn't far away. I seen it on Cherry Orchard Road near East Croydon Station. Was a small grey kia or Hyundai driven by an edlserly lady.

A Dacia from Ukraine is the one I've most certain of seeing locally in recent months. Latvia and Poland are the Eastern European examples I've most frequently seen over the years.
