Delay Repay denied

On Tuesday I returned from Heaton Chapel to Whaley Bridge.
I caught the 2215 from Heaton Chapel arriving in Stockport at 2223 intending to catch the 2233 Buxton train.
But that train was cancelled so I had to wait for the 2319 which got to Whaley at 2348, 49 minutes later than planned.

Northern have denied the claim saying that my itinery was
Heaton Chapel 2215 -> Stockport 2219
Stockport 2319 -> Whaley Bridge 2348
and that they achieved this.

Areb they saying that 10 minutes is insufficient time to change trains at Stockport?

The interchange time isn't the problem, the issue is that the 2233 had been cancelled the night before. When did you buy your ticket?

This will inevitably come down to a "Timetable of the Day" issue - though even that phrase has been removed (from the timetable :lol:) in the latest edition of the NRCoT, presumably as the rail industry didn't even like the idea of committing to a schedule at 10pm the night before!

I would appeal it with Northern, but there's a very good chance you're going to have to argue this one further to get what you're entitled to.

Surely: if the train was cancelled the night before why did they sell me a ticket for it.?
What sort of ticket did you have? Was it an advance for an itinerary specifically including the 2233, or was it a ticket that could be used on any train on the route? If the latter then there was a train which you could (and did) use.

It was an off peak open return

So it wasn’t specifically for the cancelled train: rather, it was open to you to get any train from Stockport to Buxton.

While cancelling trains isn’t good, I don’t think that you have a complaint that will get you refunded, delay-repaid or otherwise compensated.

Surely we aren’t suggesting that Northern will sell a ticket with an itinerary for a train that has already been removed from the timetable, by them?

is'nt delay repay a good thing for the travelling public intending to compensate them, but all the good intentions went out of the window, when the rail companies introduced many hoops for joe public to jump thru. So making it very hard to get what repay is due... indeed hoping they will give it up.
