I saw video of this train on Shap, later learnt loco had failed at Carlisle. Just a question about the rolling stock: all Mk1's (hooray) except the last carriage Mk2 air-con (boo). Do I assume they don't have one MK1 TSO with door locking to complete the rake? Also how do they power the Aircon? Is it from the 47 on the rear?

I think they are refurbishing the carriages and haven’t quite done the full rake yet, this was what I was told on Sapho’s Sir Nigel Gresley/Settle-Carlisle run last year, when I ended up in a Statesman Mk2 on the Saphos Mk1 rake.

It'll be nice when they have a full MK1 rake, might even be able to drop the deisel and have it on a shadow path occasionally?

Diesel is needed to power the CDL. They do have a generator coach at Crewe, but they take a diesel along for power now, since it can carry its own weight and help if there is a problem up front.

The remaining Mk1 has now been refurbished and will be in the Saphos rake shortly. The diesel is required for ETS which includes heating, lighting, CDL and power for the kitchen car, as well as to provide shunt release / reversal moves.

I heard today that the SRPS rake has been bought by LSL, so they will have a second rake eventually.

Interesting. There seems to be a lot of rumours flying around at the moment about what LSL are buying... I would take most of them with a pinch of salt.

Overheated bearing according to the catering staff. I was onboard. Shame as on the outward leg it was managing a good 75 mph for extended periods.

SRPS have released a statement today saying that some of their coaches are nearing completion of overhaul at Bo'ness and they hope to resume main line operations later this year. No mention whatsoever that their rake of stock has been bought by anyone although it does mention that some vehicles will have final completion works undertaken elsewhere by third party contractors. Maybe that's where the confusion has arisen.

Yes, that did cross my mind. Glad they’ve cleared things up.
