It has an inner and outter link, new starters will be in the inner link so you will mainly be doing Moorgate to Stevenage via Hertford and Moorgate to Welwyn work in 717. Quite intensive work with lots of stops but some really enjoy that.
After a couple of years you can try move to the outer link with more variety in the work or put in a transfer to kings cross, welwyn etc if you fancy a change.
Personally it would be the depot I'd want to work at least on the gn side if I had a choice but you have to start somewhere!

Pm me, may be able to help you with any questions. It's great as a starter depot but as a qualified I'm not too sure because of the intensity of the work.

Awful workload. It's got a little better. But that could easily change back in May when the timetables change. Think it's night shifts one in every 5 weeks too. And the night jobs aren't the nicest.

Location is inside the ULEZ, so if you drive an older diesel car, and plan to drive in for those early/late shifts then keep that in mind. Traffic in the surrounding area can be horrendous too. So consider that when planning your journey times to and from work.

There's very little in the immediate vicinity of the depot in terms of shops/food, so horrible place to be stuck spare unless you want to drive to get something.

If it's your first driving job, then it doesn't matter what depot you get, but as others have said, I'd avoid it if I was a qualified, unless coming from a TOC with worse Ts and Cs than GTR.

Sorry, can't think of any pro's other than you'd be a train driver !!

What are the terms and conditions like at GTR?

You say about workload, but any London TOC workload will be high considering the type of service each TOC provides into the city. The way the industry is going as a whole workload is up across the board. Would be very seldom you find a lot less work from one TOC to another. Yes there will be differences but all very similar I would say.

Hornsy might suit some that live local or on the line. Travel time/T&Cs is what I would be looking at.

Maybe cause I'm used to it but I don't think the workload is that bad. I think it's just what you're used to. There's some rubbish diagrams and there's good diagrams, just like any other depot

Hours wise it will be similar, but metro work is very, very different to Avanti, LNER, EMR etc., and a lot more intense. That’s not necessarily a bad thing, especially when you’re getting a key and learning the job, but generally people move from metro to longer distance rather than the other way around for a reason.

At least Hornsey has some (reasonably quick) progression to outer work, which AIUI includes Cambridge Cruisers etc. and also they go to Three Bridges through the core, so a pretty decent route card.

I know I'd rather do 20 stops a day than around a 100 stops a day which is the standard for Hornsey inner work. Also going down the NCL 3 times a day gets quite depressing.

GTR Ts and Cs aren't bad.

Sunday outside the working week. - Committed Sundays can be given away if you don't want to work them.
Decent enough roster patterns (no circadian rostering) - not too difficult to find mutual swaps for permanent early/late shifts
Rest day work available
High pay

If you want intense metro work , London Overground are now the highest paid company after Eurostar.
