Although many would consider it part if Reading or Wokingham, Winnersh is pretty tiny yet has two stations

Could Lelant be the smallest in England? (At least among those with the place name at the beginning of both station names.)

If we're being strict on town definitions, then is Woburn Sands a town (and one place together with Apsley Guise)? They certainly look fairly conjoined and like a quite small place to have two station...

Tyndrum definitely the smallest settlement. I remember stopping at Upper Tyndrum last year on the Midland Pullman while we waited for a Scotrail unit to come the other way. 400 people milling around on the station platform for 20 minutes - we temporarily trebled the population!

In terms of towns, Dorking and Pontrefact could be contenders as well. They're both small-ish towns with 3 stations.

Although very close they are in different counties, i wouldn't count them as being the same place.

The village has expanded with new housing around the Saltings and up in the Church Road area since the mid nineties. And the Saltings station has only two services a day now the St Erth Park and Ride is in full swing.

Plus Earlswood (WM and Warks) but so what? Those are the same place. Woburn Sands and Aspley Guise are not.
Absolutely; and some of my 1980s school classmates were bussed in from Woburn Sands and Aspley Guise.

I don't know about for Earlswood, but it's a bit "territorial" in Grayshott. House prices on the Surrey side, typically exceed those on Hampshire's side; yet the village's centre (including a European food market and a supercars garage) are on the "cheap side" - which, by national average, isn't cheap either... :)

What would be the smallest settlement with three stations? Possibly Ryde on the Island Line?

Hawarden, although not a winner, is in there with two (named) stations for a population of c13500.

It also has an airport.

Pontefract also notable for having three stations for a population of 30000.

Being more pedantic, the post says nothing about the stations being National Rail or even standard gauge!

I would submit Fairbourne as having eight stations with a population just over 1000. Or for towns, Tywyn with three stations and just over 2000, although there may be better candidates.

(I agree Llanwrst is the sensible answer as written, and Tyndrum as possibly intended).

Hawarden Bridge is not in Hawarden though!

That's counting the narrow-gauge railway, as technically not ruled out by the question. ;)
To add to that, I then suggest Blackpool, Population of 141k, and about 30 stations (depending on what counts as a "station" in the Pleasure Beach).

Edit: Just realised I forgot the tram, probably pushes the total up by 10 or so
