The Enviro 100 has smaller wheels; is it possible to fit smaller wheels to an Enviro 200 whilst still giving adequate ground clearance, and would it then be able to clear the low bridge?
If the details I've found online which suggest the 200EV is 3.4m high then I highly doubt smaller wheels would trim 30cm off the height.

Based on the fact they also need to keep some E200s for DCC tenders I suspect the only cost-effective way to convert the 90 route to electric would be to revise it as I've suggested in the Stagecoach Yorkshire thread. Having a handful of buses dedicated just to this route (rather than a wider pool including tenders) would be more difficult to manage. When the current electrics get replaced in due course a lower height bus is likely to be available, but that's not going to happen for a long time,

Is that actually available to buy in the UK?

The E100EV would fit under said bridge (10'3, so a tad over 3.1m) however it wasn't available at the time the bid was placed, and I'm not sure the capacity is enough for the route anyway. Plus I'd imaging they want to standardise on types that cover a range of capacities rather than having a handful of buses dedicated to one route.

The current E200EV is too tall, as are the Yutongs.
The Switch Metrocity still appears to be available. I understand it was designed for London, and is still common there, with some new examples coming to London only last year.

58 E400EVs for the LCRCA now publicly confirmed.

25 Feb 2025

Alexander Dennis, a subsidiary of NFI Group Inc., one of the world’s leading independent global bus manufacturers, today announced that it has taken a firm order from the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority for 58 next-generation Enviro400EV zero-emission buses.

The electric buses are expected to join the city region’s current fleet later this year. Publicly owned by the Combined Authority, they will be operated by a commercial bus operator ahead of the introduction of franchising from 2026 onwards. Their purchase is being supported by the second tranche of the Department for Transport’s Zero-Emission Bus Regional Areas fund (ZEBRA 2).

The Enviro400EV is part of Alexander Dennis’ next generation of zero-emission buses. It has been designed to maximise its environmental benefits and testing certified by the Zemo Partnership has confirmed its best-in-class energy requirement of only 0.67kWh/km over the UK Bus Cycle alongside a market-leading 97% grid-to-wheel charging efficiency. Combined with a warranted energy throughput of up to 1.6GWh, ongoing operating costs will be kept to a minimum to ensure the buses are financially as well as environmentally sustainable.

All 58 Enviro400EV for the Liverpool City Region will be built in Britain, supporting 1,900 UK skilled jobs and more than 60 apprenticeships at Alexander Dennis as well as further significant employment at the manufacturer’s 8,000 suppliers across the United Kingdom.

From pics I've been sent privately, several 'METRO' ones sighted complete at ADL at Camelon, along with some Bee Network and Stagecoach examples. The Liverpool bound ones carry 25 plate registrations.

Extra ZEBRA 2 funding may be on the cards, according to the latest Staffordshire bus strategy update.

Zero Emission Bus Regional Areas (ZEBRA) 2 Update

[...]

26. In November 2024, the DfT has provided all successful ZEBRA 2 bids the opportunity to expand their projects. Diamond Bus has worked with SCC to propose an expansion to the Burton element to deliver:

a. Five additional electric buses for services 8/9 to completely electrify the route.
b. One electric bus for service two which completely electrifies the route.
c. Two electric buses for service X12 that runs between Burton and Lichfield via Fradley Park.
d. Nine gantry chargers and associated infrastructure at the Burton depot.

27. A ZEBRA 2 expansion bid was submitted in December [2024] that could potentially secure an additional c£5.3m investment into Staffordshire. The DfT has not indicated timescales for informing local authorities of the outcome.

Will there be a ZEBRA 3?
I am guessing we will have to wait for the Spending Review to find out, however there does seem to be an emphasis from DfT for local authorities to start taking the responsibility using BSIP funding.

Tees Valley Combined Authority has teamed up with Arriva & Stagecoach to bid for 62 electric buses - 22 for Arriva Darlington route 2 and Arriva Redcar route 63 as well as 40 for Stagecoach Stockton depot (Nearly the entire allocation i believe)

democracy.darlington.gov.uk/documents/s21158/240222%20S%20Darlington%20Transport%20Plan%20-%20Delivery%20Plan%20APP%201.pdf

There has now been a change to the Tees Valley ZEBRA funding, as noted {url=https://teesvalley-ca.gov.uk/about/...11-March-2025-Agenda-and-Papers.pdf]here[/url]:
Arriva's allocation has now be revised to 21 vehicles - all of which are now bound for Darlington. Understand these will be 7 full-size single deckers for the 2 (Branksome-Red Hall) with the remaining 14 being midibuses for the 3 (Skerne Park), 4 (Minors Crescent), 9 (Springfield), 10 (Whinfield) and 13A/B (Firth Moor) (the 19 to Faverdale will also likely feature given the Monday to Saturday journeys are linked to the 3).
Stagecoach's 40 ZEBRA-funded Yutongs are being joined by a further 18 examples (listed in the latest Fleetbook as being bound for Slatyford and diverted but recently confirmed that isn't the case) which are entirely payed for by Stagecoach with a futher 6 vehicles due to take the total allocation to 64 - the entire allocation. Stockton will therefore be the first 100% Electric Depot in the North East region.

I wish I was still in Middlesbrough! Instead, I'm in Exeter, last for electric buses. Still, I might get to ride on the First electrics elsewhere in the South West.

So, as noted on other threads the ZEBRA 2 total has risen by 319 vehicles and now includes a repowered allocation, which I believe is a first where UK bus subsidies are concerned. 1274 vehicles in all is within 50 of what's currently funded for ZEBRA 1; I'm curious as to which of the two schemes will finish first...
