Thanks, that explains the difference to how Birmingham group works (obviously to benefit the privatised rail industry rather than the passenger). It isn't helpful, however, for someone planning a trip to Blackpool who doesn't know which one to search for journeys to.

I did look on a map to understand that either station would be fine, but if I'm flexible in what time I can go, and will book my ticket based on the prices offered, then doing one search for "Blackpool (any)" is better than doing separate searches for both North and South stations and spending...

The problem with that is if you don't know which station in Birmingham is the best one for your journey, how do you pick the right one? There should at least be an option for "Birmingham City Centre stations" or similar. I was looking at booking a ticket to Blackpool earlier today, not knowing...

I don't think you'll have any trouble on the XC leg but might have trouble on EMR and especially GWR from Bristol when you'd be expected to have gone via Gloucester. There is a 9:13 direct Beeston-Cardiff, arriving 12:25 and you should be accepted on that with no problems as the guard should...

This has happened to me before with the exact same train (going to Gloucester), although it was cancelled on the day rather than being pulled from the timetable. They were fine with it at the ticket barrier at Birmingham New Street and fine with it on board the earlier train too.

If you're at an airport you can also use all the landside facilities, no need to stay in the station.

That's correct, the same applies on the Newport bus service between Lydney and Chepstow.

I tend to use CrossCountry mostly because the majority of my journeys are with them anyway, and they allow for easy amendments of advances without a fee.
