Wigan-Bolton electrification. Construction updates only please

I don’t know if it’s already been reported but there are a few masts (about 5) erected on the line to Wigan Wallgate just after the junction at northwestern.

    Voyagers /Meredians

Just found the article in March Modern Railways (P25) which covers this subject. To cut it short, changes to the TSI mean that Alstom can no longer supply trains to the UK market and TASS is said to be obsolete, now. This would suggest that starting from scratch with a new tilt system with its...

    Voyagers /Meredians

I think that the real reason is that no-one is willing to design the tilt mechanism for the restricted UK loading gauge for replacement trains.

    Where has a 195 been?

I’ve heard from two independent sources that a pair of 195/1s operated ecs on 5C95 from Barrow-in-Furness to Preston via Carlisle on 05-04-2024.

Wigan-Bolton electrification. Construction updates only please

It looks like it’s possible for a train to access Wigan North Western from electrified lines now. How much over-run is provided at the moment?

    Multiple Working

I seem to remember that, in the days during construction of the 156s, a demonstration run was reported in the railway press to have reached over 90mph on the run to York so working with a 158 may not be much of a problem.

HS2 Euston - Development, design and construction news (not speculation, please)

Don’t the TBMs have to be clear of OOC before tracklaying etc can be started in the station due to the length of the tail-end equipment? I’m thinking power cables, spoil disposal etc. Or is there sufficient room for all this and a safety zone?

Hamilton Steele EG - Silver carriages

I’ve just looked on Apple Maps and it looks like 4 ‘white’ roofed coaches and 1 grey roofed coach with something else with graffiti halfway across the roof. Don’t know when the imaging is from and can’t see the detail on my phone.

Didn’t DB paint some mk3s silver for their company train?

    Workington bridge closed? (29/02/2024)

Barrow to Carnforth, reverse to Settle Jct then carry on to Leeds. Most of the route is deathly quiet (at least to Skipton). No struggling across Manchester or slowing down the WCML. If necessary, move a couple of fitters temporarily.

    Workington bridge closed? (29/02/2024)

Wouldn’t it be easier for them to get to Neville Hill?

Northumberland Line to be re-opened to passengers

And 3) a 158 is nothing like a metro train because of its end doors slowing down passenger embarkation and disembarkation.

DfT Plan to Demolish Disused Bridges and Tunnels

A couple of £000s per year for inspections and minor repairs wouldn’t come close to a one off payment of infilling for a very long time when you take into account interest on the capital sums involved. Ive never been involved with bridge inspections so I’ve taken yearly as a guess. With current...

    Single-track station on double-track railway?

I understand that the second platform is being reinstated. 1708988441 Dunbar was two platforms on the main line then the down platform abandoned and then reinstated.

Surely the Windrush Line should go from Tilbury Riverside. Wasn’t that where the Empire Windrush docked. https://www.museumoflondon.org.uk/discover/how-did-empire-windrush-change-london-docklands
